so i installed windows7 at my dads, entered one of the vista beta keys and went on through the first run. when i opened internet explorer 8 i got a white screen (i assume this means it timebombed on me) but i thought since i had entered a beta key it wouldnt do that; expecially since i had it set to not connect to nternet to activate.

so now it wont boot from xp (cant figure out why on that one but there isnt a an option fo it...) and i go into limited mode when i boot into windows 7.

is there any way to save this install because since i didnt have a cd to burn at this house i did it through virtual mounting and i cant access xp :/ where its all at.

Hey,

Do a new installation on top of the old one with Win7, but do it keyless.

Sadly, i dont think there is a activation crack out there yet (besides the slmgr /rearm) that will extend activation with 30 days.. you can use that 3 times.

doesnt calling the automated phone lines fill your activation till some time in 2009? until then ill go into my ubuntu live cd (am now) reset grub as the bootloader load xp from grub set my bios back 30 days and install win7.

edit: i restored grub and was able to boot into my native install of ubuntu (1 step at a time i guess) but when i select my old xp option it opens a screen saying boot into windows 7 or... windows 7... so how do i fix this one? (i dont have the install cd it is at my moms)

Don't set your BIOS time back, it isn't needed, and do not enter a key while installing, change the key when you've got Windows 7 installed and ready.

The Automated Phone activation works fine.

Just incase you need a reference to the Automated phone part: http://www.betaarchive.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=66709#66709

are you still using that without calling up? i used one of those keys and got through the install but as soon as i opened ie8 i went to a white screen and when i rebooted i was in limited functionality (cant open some things it says restricted and im stuck in 800 x 600 resolution with no windows theme)

but anyone on how to boot into xp or load windows 7 setup without a dvd?

actually on the note of dvd i found 1 dvd, when i stick t in it says blank but when i try to burn it it says not enough space (the label on the disk says 4.7 gb and the burning program says not enough space for 2.7gb)

You seriously can't go spend a couple of dollars on a single blank DVD?

Are you burning from Ubuntu? Just install and try a different application.

OR you can just call Microsoft and activate it...

The best way is to extend Windows 7 trial every 30 days to get 120 days by opening command prompt and type in the following:

sysprep /generalize

slmgr.vbs –rearm

rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows

slmgr /rearm

Microsoft will release a public beta of Windows 7 before the trial run out anyway.
