This computer can't run 7, so I'm not hyped.

Not yet, there hasn't been too much change from Vista to Windows 7. So far the changes I think that are present are:

Code:
New WMP
New Media Center
New bootscreen
Ribbon UI on Wordpad and Paint
New timebomb, so hopefully a proper beta won't have it
Windows Health Center replaces Security Center
Health Center renamed into Solution Center
right-click menu has changed(in desktop)
Changes to Explorer
Different Taskbar starting in M2
MANY items added to Control panel
Many applications removed starting in M3 because they're also part of Windows Live

And...

Wikipedia wrote:
* WDDM 1.1
* Direct3D 11
* Desktop Window Manager requires Direct3D 10
* D2D, a new hardware-accelerated 2D API built on top of Direct3D 10
* NDIS 6.20
* DirectX Video Acceleration-High Definition (DXVA-HD)
* AVCHD camera support and Universal Video Class 1.1
* Protected Broadcast Driver Architecture (PDBA) for TV tuner cards
* Bluetooth audio stack
* Hyper-V and VHD support
* More than 64 logical processors

Also, I hope the beta can support 1GB or RAM, because the only way for me to test it is to use it in VPC

Most likely, I'm already close to [censored] up the LCD panel.

I'm fairly ready for this. I wouldn't say I'm extremely excited as I was with LH (because it was my first beta experience), but I've got some spare HD space waiting for an OS (along with XP/Ubuntu).[/quote]

I think Microsoft is making a terrible choice by releasing a product that is a service pack at most.

Secondly, MS has begun to almost canabalize its market - many people are not installing Vista because they are planning on Windows 7. This is actually worst than normal canabalization, because they are only planning on buying Windows 7...

Windows 98 -> Windows ME
Windows Vista -> Windows 7

Not really, I feel rather apathetic about the whole Windows 7 thing.

Really, not overly excited.
It should be like the change that took us from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, another 'minor' version.

But I doubt it'll be anything near that. I can see it more like being Windows XP SP1 to Windows XP MCE 2005. A slightly new theme, a fair number of patches, a few more features. That's about it.

2GB of RAM here and 32GB of 250GB free.

So I guess I'm hyped.

I'll see to being 'hyped' after the PDC to see if there is anything to be excited about.

At the moment, just a little interested.

So, if DWM requires Direct3D 10, does that mean those PCs with a video card that will happily run aero in Windows Vista will no longer run aero in Windows 7, or do you think Windows 7 will have a ''legacy'' version of DWM for non-DX10 capable video cards?

I can't wait for windows 7.
There seems to be a bunch of nice improvement in the user interface that actually make navigation easier, instead of just being eye-candy, like flip 3-d was in vista.

While nobody has said specifically how it'll work, it has been stated that DWM will scale to match a GPU's capabilities.

Therefore, it is likely that DX9 GPU's will still work.

Glad that MSFT is working on making W7 leaner and finally adding features that were supposed to be in Longhorn.

I have made a vow...I will be the FIRST PERSON to get Windows 7 to run on the Asus Eee PC...I can do it with Vista, so why not 7?

I love it when a new OS is released/leaked, so many new things to experiment with and test!

To be seriously honest, I'm not too perked by it since it is a maintenance release, and not a major version. However, that does not go to say that I am interested in Windows 7.

Having attended the PDC, and experience a rather wierd error, I am rather bemused as to why some people are a little "over-excited" (hopefully no one here is) but what I mean is that some people are going OTT aka. a Windows 7 Bedroom?

I will be, I think, when it's different enough to Vista. As it is, I'm interested.
