I found this theme in the Windows Embedded Standard CTP Refresh. It's called "Embedded" and, along with the wallpaper, gets copied into the image if the Windows XP UI component is added. As it's digitally signed it works with any XP/Server 2003 install. The archive I uploaded below contains the Embedded folder and the Embedded.theme to be copied to %systemroot%\resources\themes and the wallpaper in its original format and size.

I like this theme, thought I'd share the discovery. Sorry if this is old news. Enjoy.

Does NOT require a hacked uxtheme.dll!

Very nice XP theme, it might just replace royale on my XP box

Mirror here: http://www.bitsurge.net/files/Embedded.zip

It looks really nice, I hope they change the start menu though, that text looks a little strange.

Nice ... it's good to see more signed themes. I wonder how many were actually created by Microsoft's design team?

No, it's a signed theme.

This theme looks decent but the fonts used kill it.

MS have preferred Arial in XP Embedded for some reason and it looks strange without ClearType. Using the standard font (Trebuchet MS?) makes it look better.

Very nice theme but i can't take the XP flavor on my laptop. It doesn't support XP. So, I also try it on my desk PC later.

I never understood why they locked themes up anyway. They barely released themes for XP. The only ones they've ever released worth using, is just a recolored Royale. I can't stand Windowblinds so I never use it.

Why is it that Microsoft insist that themes must be signed to be able to be used unless you use a third party and buggy program like WindowsBlinds and give you no obvious way of how to get round it?

I don't think patching uxtheme.dll is such a big deal and then you have access to thousands of themes. WindowBlinds is not the only solution.

But why do Microsoft have to make it so hard to use 3rd party themes without having a patched uxtheme.dll? Quite a lot inexperienced users will not know why they can't use 3rd party themes. I remember a few years back, I was sick and tired of the default XP luna theme and found a place where I could download themes for free, but was confused as to why I couldn't use any of them and was thinking they had tricked me into downloading currupted themes. Its only just know I have realized how to get most 3rd party themes working without downloading 3rd party applications like WindowsBlinds.

EDIT: Did anyone else here noticed that some elements seem to be to small for the rest of theme?

You can change the fonts in the Classic appearance properties though - XP tends to look best if you load in a Vista font like Segoe UI and use ClearType and the ClearType Tuner PowerToy to make the text as dark as possible (ClearType is great, I don't know why everyone doesn't use it!).

Don't call me crazy but for some reason, XP's ClearType puts strain on my eyes no matter what option I set in the Tuner PowerToy. May be due to the fonts, I don't know. On the other hand, I have no problem with font anti-aliasing on Vista, Mac OS X and X11 where it really makes the fonts used look great. Maybe I should give XP's ClearType another try with a Vista font...

Hmm, interesting, I find it really nice even with something like Arial (at the darkest setting - on the default without the PowerToy it's pretty horrible) - I can't stand the jagged text you get without ClearType after having got used to it! I think on Vista it's the same as XP, or at least it looks the same to me - you have to get the Tuner out of XP though and stick it in the right place as for some reason they don't seem to make one that will install on Vista. I won't call you crazy though :)
