I am using Vista Ultimate x64 and i like to keep experimenting with longhorn
whenever i install a fresh copy of longhorn or xp after vista the vista bootloader gets overwritten and i cant access my vista anymore when i try to use the repair feature in the vista rtm dvd it gives a message that this version of os is not supported
is there anyway i can repair the vista bootloader

Ehh, nope.

Install 4074 before Vista.

And the Bootloader (BCD) is specific for every windows vista (based on hardware).

Try to boot from DVD. Click repair my computer, after select your installation or just click next, after open you command prompt. Now try these command
Code:
bootrec /RebuildBCD
If it doesn't help try
Code:
bootrec /fixboot
and
bootrec /fixmbr

You can download "Easy BCD" or "Vista Boot Pro" and then add restore the vista bootloader, or you start the longhorn setup while you are using vista, then it is automatically adding entries to the BCD (doesn't work with XP tough)
