Well, back in the Vista RC days, Upgrade Advisor said that the GMA900 Graphics Card would support Aero. but in the final beta...Microsoft decided to withdraw that...Intel then refused to make a WDDM driver. is there a way...to get a GMA900 to use Aero?

Because, I just installed an extra 1 GB of RAM thus bringing my lappy up to 1.5 GB :D

the GMA900, meets all Aero req. it just needs a WDDM driver :|, can I get some assistance.

Dude, you're not alone, I have a 915 Chipset and I'm too looking for a WDDM Driver for Intel, but Intel sadly has abandoned it for "better" cards X(

I am pretty ticked off about it and I want it for DVD Maker as well

I'm not sure if this'll work, but you could try an extract the GMA900 driver from a BETA build, and install it on Vista...

Bender, the only problem with that is...that I dont have the time to download Longhorn Build 5048 or Vista 5112 and find and extract all the GMA900 related files...if someone could do that, I would love that :)..thanks

If you are referring to the Lakeport Drivers, I have tried them and they lock up the system and you are forced the use the previous ones

It's quite difficult to code drivers for a graphics card that you don't know much about. If Intel isn't going to supply drivers, someone is going to have to study the existing drivers very closely in order to code a driver for Aero.

its not that they don't want to support it, but there is limitations to the GMA900. Writing a custom driver could possible enable areo, but it wouldn't be in the best for running aero. I belive intel is afraid of people going to complain that 'x' and 'y' crashed, why is program 'z' running so slow, why is there a slow down when i do step 'a' and 'b' and etc.
They don't want customer support for it.

read what they say: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/s ... 3606.htm#5
they say that it's not good enough for aero.

In my opinion, intel is not a good graphic card designer. I wouldn't buy an intel graphic card.

Ah, okay.

Most of the time, you don't buy Intel graphics cards. They come on-board on some PC motherboards and some Macs. So you'll have to buy a separate graphics card if you get one of these motherboards and don't want to use on-board Intel GMA.

It CAN.

I've read such an article about GMA 900 supporting Aero in a Mainland China forum, and I believe it works.

It says:

1st, dl a 950 driver
2nd, run dxdiag.exe in Windows XP, then record the HARDWARE LABEL.
3rd, extract the driver(950GM) for Vista, using WINRAR or sth else, then open igdlh.inf (in \graphics)

it looks sth like that:

Quote:

[Intel.Mfg]
%iLPGD0% = i945G0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2772
%iLPGD1% = i945G1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2776
%iCLGD0% = i945GM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27A2
%iCLGD1% = i945GM1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27A6
%iBWGX0% = i965G0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2982
%iBWGX1% = i965G1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2983
%iBWGQ0% = i965G0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2992
%iBWGQ1% = i965G1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2993
%iBWGC0% = i965G0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A2
%iBWGC1% = i965G1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A3
%iBWGZ0% = i965G0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2972
%iBWGZ1% = i965G1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2973

change the HARDWARE LABELafter PCI\ in line %iCLGD0% = i945GM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27A2

then install...............
:D

PS: ppl saying that GMA 900 and 950 are having the same core but different frequency...~~ in theory, 900 supports DX 9c , but remember, enforcing Aero on your 900 is a horrible for the display module, and it could be VERY VERY  slow as some testers reporting.

kindly tell me if it works. :P I am interested in this but i haven;t got either 950 or 900~~ I remember when i first knew the method, i was having a 865G>>>..

if anyone remember focing glass on 5219 to 5270, for non supportive graphic cards, some glass features would not work plus it's very slow on some graphic cards

so if it doesn't work, i wouldn't recommand forcing it on since it will require high resources and setting the usage of the card to 100%. it means you will use up the battery on a laptop really quickly and heating up the system faster.

When I build/buy a computer/laptop, I check for the graphic card before I buy. I choose nvidia cards for my laptop and for a computer motherboard instead of intel ones since they are horrible in my opinion. It really doesn't matter that much for a motherboard since you could always add a new one in but for a laptop, I would spend alittle for for a better graphic card. It is understandable that macs don't office better graphic cards at a cheap price, hence i wouldn't go for the cheapest macbook since it isn't the best to use anyways.
I rather not buy a macbook or buy a better one.

Hey guys. There is a tutorial about enabling Aero on non-WDDM Video Cards. It doesn't work for everyone but you can always try.

starting with Build 5308 you can't force Aero on graphic cards without WDDM drivers.

I've only had one Nvidea graphics card throughout my life. I've been using ATI cards most of the time and I find they aren't bad for what I need to do throughout my day.

I don't know if the GMA 950 driver would work on the GMA 900. Someone should try this.

Indeed. Vista nVidia drivers are also known for their unreliability.

It's always possible to force the installation of the driver, and pick the 950 model instead of 900.
So someone could give that a try.
