This seems to be the place for MS-related betas that my rank could see, so I decided to upload "Fiji", which is the codename for the next Windows Media Center edition.

You may download it here via my private site:

(you may need to copy and paste the link in as its not entirely clickable)

Thanks for sharing this.

Is it a beta build? or alpha?

Can you give us some more info on what changes when you install it?

:)

Ok, found some stuff out about it:

Here are just a few bits of information about Fiji:

-Will add DirecTV support, which has been a long time coming (since 2006)
- New built-in Updating engine (seperate from Windows Update) dubbed “Windows Media Center Update”
- To be named “Windows Vista Media Center Feature Pack 2008″
- Currently in private beta, but scheduled to be released in the coming months

I'll get some screens up later :)

This build (6.1.1000.18182 (longhorn_mc_dev_fb0(wmbla).080410-2208)) is old, there is already a new one: 6.1.1000.18217 (longhorn_mc_dev(wmbla).080514-2210)...

Yeh, Indeed. I have the build, but I haven't tried it yet. Anyone know what the new build is like?

What do they mean by DirectTV support -- support for merely connecting your PC to a DirectTV STB or a software-based CAM?

Some screenshots for everyone! I have no TV Tuner so I have no way of checking to see if anything has changed in there. It doesn't look like too much is different. There is the "Internet TV" icon which now says "1.1" next to it.

These last two screenshots I pulled from somewhere else. I didn't think to screenshot the installer, and I can't get this last one to show up.

I'd be very happy to check out the latest if someone wants to share it! :D

It got cut short with the bracket, copy the entire URL and paste it into the address bar.

I'll see about getting the x86 and x64 of the new build uploaded.

Ah of course.
Don't know how I didn't notice that before, thanks.

This seems really neat! Quick question, if it has direct TV support does that mean hook it up to your wall and you get direct TV or does it mean you have to hook it up to a direct tv box to get DTV on your pc?

Anyway, this seems really cool, I will have to look for a newer build when I have some more free time.

I installed it on my system, but i noticed that when playing music, Media center fails to play visualizations (It just shows the desktop with the media information on the bottom left). Hopefully this is a known glitch and already fixed.

some of the features i noticed in the april beta for DVB-T are:
-subtitles
-"red button" capability
-more customisation in the guide and a new UI (new icons, designs, and includes more info e.g. where a repeat of a recorded or scheduled recording is made there is an "i" icon)

some of the "bugs" are:
-filetypes are .wtc so after uninstalling you can't watch them
-it doesn't always recognise series

it's also extremely temperamental (which is expected with it being an internal beta)
