Quite a while back, I remember hearing of a Windows Live operating system. Was this ever announced or released as a pre-alpha or anything? Was it just a concept or something?

I heard if from someone I knew, but didn't find anything through Google. I had heard about it just after Windows Vista Beta 2 was released.

Windows Live OS was eventually rolled out as Windows Live Mesh, which I believe is currently in beta form.

Live Mesh was easy to sign-up for.

Go to Connect, choose it in your 'Connection Directory' & apply.
In about 1- week I had my invite.

Mesh is like a (5GB) storage system in the clouds, one can also access their running PCs from away (I haven't tried that yet tho).

It is still a bit buggy & is definitely still in development.
