Legal, if you own the real disc and official key.

Illegal in the eyes of microsoft if you dont have the office CD/DVD and key.

But alpha/betas/rc can be shared here, because they dont have support (and some other things).

But some here would agree with that, or disagree (i am 50-50).

ive installed a few of the 4xxx builds, and they all seem to have pretty air tight end user license agreements. Essentially, we are breaking the law if we download or distribute longhorn.

Does this even really need to be debated. Like Microsoft were ever going to give something away for free. It is Piracy. Just like Abandonware is. There is no way of escaping that fact. By downloading any Longhorn Alpha, you are breaking the law. Microsoft could take you to court for just as much over Longhorn alphas as for pirated Windows XP or Vista.

My opinion is that there are 4 main opinions, "positive"(also classifying betas/alphas/RCs as abandonware), "50/50", "antipiracy" and "negative".

Positive claims that it's all legal.

50/50 claims that the betas Microsoft published publicly ARE legal, the others aren't.

Antipiracy is basically the DjRob's opinion.

Negative claims that it's all illegal.

Here you go.

I don't have a real opinion though.
