I installed Windows 8 build 8002 on VMware Workstation 9, then installed the VMware Tools add-on. I chose an aero theme. But the AeroShot application simply does not start, although I did all the same steps on Windows 7 RTM and there was no such problem. Who knows what's the matter?

Either install .NET Framework 3.5 using DISM or follow this guide: https://superuser.com/a/1031062
