Windows Vista Beta 5384.4 64-bit installation error

Post by Beta12 »

I don't have a DVD optical drive. I tried to install the system on ASUS P8H61-M LE R2 in two ways:
1. I shared the ISO image in a virtual drive over the network, boot WinPE 4 (wimboot) and start setup from mapped drive. Immediately after running the setup, this error appears:

2. How to Install Windows 7 or Windows Vista on Physical Machine Without DVD Media
The installation works but at the end just before the first restart an error appears:

Win7, 8 or 10 installs without problems in both ways.

Put the install files on a bootprepped hard disk and start setup from it.

Early Longhorn builds have a bug in the installer, it requires PE be booted from CD-ROM.
If your machine do not have a CD-ROM drive, you might want to start Setup in Windows, or boot from ram disk CD-ROM with grub4dos.

I usually boot a custom Windows PE (Server 2003 based) ISO in RAM with grub4dos, then start Vista setup from there.

You need a special driver (winvblock or firadisk) to access the ram disk in Windows.

I didn't know about that. Actually, I have a DVD drive but with an ATA interface and the motherboard has only SATA. I ordered such a thing:

Yes, this converter has solved the problem.
The error 0xc000000f has appeared but after restarting from DVD and choosing the Startup Repair option the Vista beta2 5384 works properly. :)
