Windows 10 in my opinion is god awful. It's bloated, unfinished after 4 f***ing years of availability, and spyest of spywares. Why does Microsoft need my pictures? They're mine! Windows 8.1 was at least tolerable. My old computer with a 2.9 gigahertz Intel Celeron from 2013 and 4 gigabytes of ram booted faster with Windows 8.1 Pro than my current machine with a 3.5 gigahertz AMD A8-7600 and 8 gigabytes ram running Windows 10 Enterprise. :x

Your views on Windows 10 are far from isolated or unique. You should consider installing Windows 8.1 if Windows 10 makes you this angry, or consider the many privacy-enhancing tools found across the web. Personally, I'd just install a Linux distro, but that might not be ideal for you.

I think Windows 7 is probably the best choice, but Windows 10 indeed sucks for several reasons
1.) Pre-installed junk
2.) Privacy issues
3.) Bloated - very slow and a memory hog

I could write an essay or two about my problems with Windows 10. It has done some funky things on others' machines like the Microsoft Edge taskbar icon being replaced by a blank space, settings app constantly crashing etc.

When I bought my workstation it came with Windows 10 Pro installed. I noticed that performance was incredibly poor as it kept bashing my HDD hard. Specifically the apps downloading and installing, telemetry collection as well as Windows Defender (which is actually quite good once "it gets to know you"). That got wiped after some comparative benchmarking.

My laptop came with Windows 10 Home and the OEM bloatware on top of the MS bloatware really hampered performance. So I ran to Windows 7, which would BSOD every 10 days or so and did not feel optimal. Thus, I installed win10 LTSC (1809) which lacks the apps and feature updates. Combine that with some telemetry blocking scripts and disabling the Diagnostic Policy Service, and the OS stops phoning home to MS! It now works better than Windows 7 on this 5400 rpm HDD.

Unfortunately the win32 replacement calculator from Windows 7 crashes when I try to convert units! If the calculator in Windows 2000 or XP had such a flaw, it would be patched in no more than a few weeks but I've been waiting 7 months.

If you believe that everyone, including less fortunate individuals, should drop everything to have the latest and best hardware so they can use Windows 10 like you, maybe you should be the first to start a welfare system for this community so you can share your fortunes for everyone to be able to run Windows 10 smoothly.
Because some people can't afford the money to go out of their way for such luxuries to ensure the premium Windows 10 experience you describe. But clearly you can help them, right?

If you are just spending your parent's money, upgrade to SSD won't bother much but if you actually work and earn money yourself, everything is different. As I said before, Windows 10 is good, 64-bit version runs fine with 2GB RAM and HDD if you don't play games (except for Minesweeper which won't affect anything).

If you just install Windows 10 and think it is slow, you have to customize it so it becomes fast, for example getting rid of all startup items and all of those fancy animation and even considering replacing the shell will make Windows 10 super fast. If you think it is spying on you, change Privacy settings in Settings and uninstall all UWP apps.

Well, there is your problem, AMD's A-series of APUs quite frankly are terrible. AMD's entire Bulldozer/Piledriver/Steamroller/Excavator series of CPUs and APUs are just bad in hindsight, because they have rather paltry IPC and cannot compete against contemporary Intel CPUs. Zen is a MUCH better architecture, and along with an SSD, Windows 10 flies on it as far as I'm concerned.

What is the point of the topic? The Windows 10 bashing has been done to death and, unfortunately, this often includes disinformation or misinformation (both of which are already present in this article).

With that said, Windows 8.1 Update > Windows 10. The former is so beautiful to me and is more convenient and efficient in many ways. Sharing, for example—even screenshots, a feature which Windows 10 does not have—is incredibly simple. The Start screen still, after over three years out, has many features the Start menu simply does not have. I also love the mobile design and emphasis on mobility.

Sure, many large online companies like Google and Facebook spy on you but it's not hard to stay away from most social media, and use other search engines. The thing is, UEFI is not a good specification because it drops legacy compatibility with DOS and Windows XP and other older operating systems, and even if I upgrade my PC, it'll still be slower than Windows 7 on the same hardware (in my experience, Windows 10 boots faster but once you get into the OS it's slower on an i5 3360M with 8GB DDR3 and a 7200RPM HDD), taking up more resources for no more functionality than Windows 7, and there is no good reason to upgrade to Windows 10. Can you think of one?

Yes, I would. It's true that there are worse offenders than Microsoft, and that Google & FB spy on me, but you can easily stay away from them.

So you're saying that the PC system software should be stuck in 1981 just so you can run 20 year old software on your new computer?

UEFI is recommended because it's faster than BIOS. It's also a important thing for modern PCs. Who still using DOS or any vintage OSes as main OS nowadays? We're living in 2019, not 1990s.

For speed, get a SSD, it's much faster and use less power than HDD! Also Windows system requirements rised since Windows Vista.

About search engines, DuckDuckGo search results isn't good as Google.

  • That is a big insult to all those who use pre-Vista OSes, I still use Win2k Pro as my primary OS and Win7 HP as secondary OS.
  • Give me a good reason to upgrade.

Thank you for asking. I like it very much and I wish Microsoft had continued to work with Windows 8.1—apparently as originally intended—instead of releasing Windows 10. It is, ahem, egalitarian. I use it with both mouse and keyboard or touch; it is infinitely superior to me with both methods of interaction over Windows 10. I often find myself surprised that the same interface works so well with different forms of interaction.

I personally do not care and have machines dedicated to Windows 3.1 and Windows 98 Second Edition.

The speed of an SSD is incredible; you would not want to go back to a HDD if you switched. They also do to an extent use less power, which can help to save battery life and reduce operation costs.
MCpillager12 wrote:

By and large Windows system requirements are perhaps largely the same since Windows Vista; however, there are changes that officially require newer hardware (e.g., processor instructions for DEP in Windows 8). If memory serves it is also true that the minimum system requirements of Windows 7 had increased from Windows Vista.

My opinion isn't without common sense, I've used it on my Celeron and my APU. Slow as balls both times. Also, this is just my opinion, don't get your panties in a knot over some random guy on internet having a sh*tty experience with Windows 10.

I'm afraid it is without common sense and it is, in turn, incomprehensible. Consider your question about Microsoft "needing your photos", for instance; it is absurd, as it is not true.

Insofar as any emotion is concerned, what you wrote—ahem, having one's "panties in a knot"—is only applicable to you; your post(s) include angry emoticons, profanity, and narrow-minded, petulant diatribes. You by all means have the right to be frustrated, but you should not write as though your experience is absolute, especially when it is clear that you are uninformed regarding the operating system and its functionality. Further, if you have a right to be upset and share your experience, others have the right to respond accordingly. Do not get upset if some random person replies in a manner that is inconsistent with how you feel you should be treated or in a manner that is inconsistent with your viewpoints.

If Microsoft doesn't track my photos in the Photo Viewer, they wouldn't mention a statistic on how many photos have been viewed with the Photo Viewer, now would they?
