Not sure if this is supposed to be here in offtopic, but I'll ask here anyway.

I came across the fake Longhorn sounds again, and got curious. Where did they came from? And how did they get associated with Longhorn?

Now, there are some pieces out there. Rumor has it that they date from 2003 or so. Were they a part of Longhorn Reloaded perhaps?
Also, I've seen some speculation that they did originate from MS, which I can sort of believe. They are some pretty high quality sounds, so maybe?

Anyway, just a little curiosity of mine.

For those wondering what I'm talking about, here are the sounds.

They're unknown origin. They can be found in multiple fanmade Windows XP themes like Royale Remixed, Longhorn Reloaded or Vista Inspirat.

There are two older threads that ask the same question:

https://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36294
https://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36772

Some more information and answers can be found in those threads, so I think they answer your question.

Yeah, their origins are pretty elusive. While people have claimed that they're official concept sounds that got leaked, I have yet to see legitimate evidence/proof to back those claims up other than them sounding "professional". While I agree with that, there are talented amateur musicians/sound designers out there, so we can't exactly jump to conclusions that they're official.

In conclusion they were either leaked concept sounds, or they came from some transformation pack (NOT Vista Inspirat, that doesn't even have all of its sounds). People have suggested Longhorn Refined, though its link has been down for 14+ years so there's no way to confirm that.

Also Longhorn Reloaded had its own sound scheme as far as I know.

It couldn't be originated from Microsoft because in 2000s, there didn't any software can produce sounds like this. This speculations you've seen just passed off the origin. These sounds could've been leaked by the creator of fanmade themes/transformation pack.

Also sorry for bad English in some paragraphs because it's not my first language...

...what?

Pretty sure you don't have to use any software to produce sounds. The Windows XP sounds were performed by an actual orchestra AFAIK

I'm pretty sure he meant that no official software from Microsoft had these sounds.

Not sure about the other sounds, but the tutorial music and startup and shutdown sounds were composed by Bill Brown.

What I'm actually talking about is the fake Longhorn sounds, not XP.
