There is a chance that a person might respond with, “DUH, someone has already done that.” Yes, yes I know that. Specifically, this PC I tried it is well, the Dellasouras. This machine is the Dell Dimension 4600. Oddly enough, someone tried this build on the 4600, with no success. It used to have an FX 5200 128MB AGP video card, but now has an 256MB ATI Radeon X1300. After looking for drivers I found a beta driver... IT WAS HORRIBLE. Lag, blue screens, wild errors, anything in your nightmares just came out of this driver. I am just lucky enough to get aero working on it. It runs worse than Vista RTM. At least there’s 1080p support. “DUH, it’s a beta OS with a beta driver.” I am aware of that. At least there is more proof that the Radeon X1300 will run on Build 5270!

PS: Don’t ask me how I debombed this build.

All in all, I just wanted to share a picture of this Dell Dimensia 4600 with Build 5270Image

Not sure about the X1300, but I have success with a Raedon 9550 with inbox driver.

The Radeon X1300 is faster than your card. After letting it run for awhile I guess superfetch jumped in and made it faster. Even though it took like 5 minuets to boot up. Slower than this PC booting Vista (SP2), XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 7.

The Radeon X1300 series had some issues with various Dell systems. I remember having to ship my card to ATI for a compatibility tweak in order to get it to work with a Dimension 8100.

This shouldn’t be a problem because when I got help with choosing a AGP video card for this Dell Dimension 4600, people have claimed that this card works on the Dell Dimension 4600. The Dell Dimension 4600 has version A02 of the BIOS. The latest version is A12. But I don’t want to risk bricking it. I mean this build of Longhorn is the only build I tested with the X1300. Every other beta was on the FX 5200. The X1300 works without a problem on Vista final, Windows 7, and XP. I guess ATI wasn’t kidding when they said it’s a :beta: driver.

Amazing! I got Vista Build 5231 working on an ECS RC410-M with Radeon Xpress 200 graphics, and aero works like a champ. Too bad I don't have it anymore.
