They are different labs, each testing the beta. (i learned this from the BA Wiki)
Lab04:Network beta's
Lab06:M$ Design Studio
idx02:Publicly given out beta's
(someone correct me if i'm wrong)
I don't know about the rest, those are in the BA Wiki. Have a look there sometimes.

I have looked in the BA Wiki before. But the information there isn't enough for me, so I asked.

winmain is the main lab where they combine all the stable code together and compile it as one build. The winmain build have older codes compare to the same build number from another lab.
Note that not everything from the lab0X builds are compiled in winmain, those test feature never made it to vista rtm / the public.

I believe lab01 is for core/server componets, as in build 4028.
Also, the lab01, lab04, lab06 and etc. discontinued after the reset. (build 5xxx)
these builds are compiled in dfferent labs, for example, build 5087

this build was from a demostration.

And what is the meaning of gdr (xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) or edw (vista_rtm_edw.061003-1945)?

(I know, these questions are very strange)
