My XP got broken, badly, I backed up and decided to install Longhorn 4074 instead. Why? Beceause I can and it looks cool :D It Installed OK, I booted, without any drivers working tho :(

But I decided to edit boot.ini to re enable my old Windows 2000 partition (i know how to do this well), then restarted, and now I get (for Longhorn) "Press Ctrl, Alt and Delete to login" I do so. Nothing happens. It works in safe mode with command prompt tho. I am gonna reinstall.

EDIT: changed title

It is the one on SP called "Longhorn 4070 Repack"

Might it be something to do with Activation?

No, for some reason i find this happens sometimes with 4074.

You can get round it by booting in safe mode to the command prompt, and using an automatic login by typing "control userpasswords2" and removing the check from "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.", then click ok, and it will ask you to enter a default username and password to log into. Its not as secure, but it works. Also, have you tried using the standard ISO, not the Repack? This problem only generally happens with Longhorn Reloaded, but since that is based on the Repack, it could be a problem with that.

Or alternatively, you could try using the classic login screen, or disabling CTRL-ALT-DEL by accessing the user Control Panel by typing "control userpasswords" at the command line

Thanks for the tip, but it did not work. This time it stuck before ctrl alt delete.

So I decided to reinstall with the Longhorn 4074 R2 on the server. It works very well I might use it as a main OS :D

Anyone know how to activate aero? I know it has it :)

No, i think it's because ATi Catalyst drivers don't work properly on Longhorn causing massive slowdowns. I'm not sure you'll be able to get it to work unless you can find a non-Catalyst driver, which i don't think exists for this card.

i tried about 5 different drivers @ 4074... [e.g. DNA, Omega, Catalyst..] None of them seemed to work properly ... on the other hand, my Mob. Radeon X700 is kinda picky with drivers... If you find something, let me know :)

It's great, you can even get taskbar glass in a VM :P

Great to see you're finally getting somewhere with 4074, i ran it relatively stably on a Celeron 2.66GHz for quite some time with full aero on a FX5200, but then i had to uninstall it when i had to give it to my brother, because he needed DirectX 9.0c. If only you could get that working on 4074 :D

This proves that we the people, not MS will fix bugs :P

That is the problem. I really really need 9.0c. I am gonna have to stick on XP again. Oh well. It was fun with Longhorn anyway and if I ever do get a new PC I will partition it up and install my favourite alpha!

I have 4074 running on a spare desktop I use specifically for testing but it has Intel Accelerated Graphics, is there any way for me to have glass/aero? or would I need to get another gfx card that's not integrated? Any help will be appreciated.

It all depends on what model GPU you have. Personally i haver never used a intel GPU on longhorn but its not ruled out as far as i know.
