Now then, I have been switching our company's websites from a Unix box that we've had for 3 years to a W2k3S box today.

Obviously windows usually takes some cleaning to keep it ship-shape and would like to make sure this server remains snappy for the foreseeable future.

If anyone could give some insight on what maintenance cron jobs i should be running and on what schedule, that would be great.

cheers

W2K3ES usually doesnt require maintenence, unless you have many apps installed.

I've found having a dedicated apps server is very beneficial, although it all depends on the budget.

So we'll conveniently forget about defrag / AV / disk cleanup then?

Defrag can be run daily or weekly via cron job.
Code:
@echo off
defrag c:
defrag d:

Just add extra defrag n: lines to add more drives.

Disk clean up should never have to be run that often if you keep your app installs clean.
Anti Virus should all be automatic updates and should have regular deep scanning at off-peak periods.

Besides those, you shouldn't have to do anything to maintain it. Just remember to keep regular backups, something nearly all of us forget to do.

Cheers, Andy.

Already had most of that set up. Backups are automatic and held off-site, so thats not an issue at the moment either :)
