I think he put XP in a new partition but he might have put it in the vista one and have an empty partition. Anyways after installing XP he says the boot options don't come up and he obviously needs his vista partition data.

main quesiton: If XP is installed does it erase the current MBR?
second question: Assuming xp erases the data instead of making anew entry (witch I doubt) how would he manually add Vista back?

Thank you very much it saved me a lot of time and frustration with the dang "how to dual boot xp and vista" guides all over google :D

He went to bed for tonight i'll tell him tomorrow and give you an update.
