Hey Guys'n'girls,

My boss was in the friendly mood and asked me to fix a win2k3 standard R2 server that is locate din japan, sadly - as expected, the damn thing is in Japanese, anyone know howto change it to English ?

I tried to download a 3,2gb MUI pack, but it seems that it can only be installed on a English server and not on a Japanese.

I compared menus under regional settings with a "normal" win2k3 server UK, and there is no option to change it to english.

Any ideas/suggestions ?

The MUI packs only work on English systems like namronia sad.
I am afraid you only need someone who could read japanese.

But what also helpes is to look at the icons, the icons are the same as in the English version or any other language.
Try to setup an local English R2 server with Japanse Language Pack and see what everythings means will help also.

And off-course what also helps is if you know how to configure or repair the server in english then it realitive easy in any other language (only Arabian is trouble, all menus are reversed).

Out of curiosity, do you know what the problem is, if so, what is it?

I've been stuck in that 'hell' before.... and there isn't much you can do about it.

Although it was 'neat' to have the Japanese version, it was confusing as hell to do much with it, except that all the icons & menu positions are in the same place. The biggest 'win' is the error codes & stuff with numbers in them so you can figure somethings out.

Now from what I remember you can install the US keyboard so you can input ascii into stuff.... I can re-install the thing to check the way to select keyboard inputs, it's not much but it does help. Also if you RDP into it, you'll want a picture of a Japanese keyboard as you'll find that shift characters will *NOT* work the way they do on your local keyboard...

Just be glad it's not Arabic or Isralie.. in that the options would go the OTHER WAY... The mirror image thing gets confusing.
