The Be OS, hands down. Insane multi-threading, zero legacy cruft and a great user experience. I'm keeping a close watch on Haiku and occasionally hack at their code. Even now 7 years later BeOS still feels fresh and innovative.

It's a shame they got pushed out of the OEM market by Microsoft. It was a serious competitor for the desktop, the mediakit alone is fantastic.

Favourite OS
All Microsoft operating systems!
My favorite OS is (and probably has almost always been) Microsoft Windows 95. It was my first OS, the one I used on my first PC, which was an old 486. That system had the Original version of Windows 95, or at least I think it did, and it was on an old CD-ROM, and we used to have the CD-ROM and Packaging but I think they were thrown out. We still have the Introducing Windows 95 Manual (Retail), as well as the system's original Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 OEM Manual and Microsoft Works 3.0 for Windows OEM Manual (these two were from before the system was rebuilt).

However, right now I'm more intrested in the really early Chicago Builds, but that's actually another reason why Windows 95 is my favorite OS. The early Chicago Builds are some of the best betas ever (in my opinion)!

I also like all Windows 1.00 Premeire Edition, Windows 1.01, Windows 2.x, Windows 3.0, Windows 3.1 (Including betas), Windows for Workgroups 3.10, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 3.1, Windows NT 3.5, Windows NT 3.51, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and I'm sure Whistler is also pretty intresting (though I still need to try it out). And I like all versions of Windows, from the early versions all the way to the most modern versions.

Another OS I like is MS-DOS, because there's so much that you can do with it. People say it's hard but it's actually easy. I remember getting a VHS tape of MS-DOS 3.3 from the "Dollar Store" (a certain "Dollar Store" chain around here that went out of business about a year ago), and then I learned how to use MS-DOS 3.3 from watching this tape. When I actually started using MS-DOS (mainly 6.22, and 7.0 from Windows 95), I was actually able to use a lot of the commands and procedures that I learned from watching this VHS tape. Then I seriously got intrested in MS-DOS and used it almost everyday. I also created a lot of batch programs, and got pretty good at it. And I also got intrested in using QBASIC to write ".BAS" programs, and that was also pretty intresting.

WinPC, the post says "What", not "why". No need for another one of your life stories.

My favourite is Windows XP because it is very practical and I have always liked its stability over 9x and luna.

You might want to edit your poll... You're forgetting WfW 3.11 (which is my vote) and the other DOS-based OSes.

Longhorn, if only for the concept, rather than the reality.

Windows XP, Simply because I use it on a day to day basis, though I like OS X just as much.

Not at all, Vista isn't a bad choice. Vista is the lastest and official OS from Microsoft. Though, all Longhorn editions leaked have still buggies, I like it so much. Mac is light and trustable but there're many programs for Windows that I can't find theme with OS X. So, Vista is my final choice.

XP is fine, I guess. Its stable enough, and seems to play well with all my hardware.

I am the odd one out I absolutely loved Windows 2000, but I also say my other favorites are the Longhorn series after XP and Windows 98, I certainly look forward to running Windows 2000 again on the free system I got hehe.

this was a hard choice for me

i picked XP since i use it on all my pc's,

Vista is a load of crap, it's ok just slow and buggy, you have to turn text framework off to use GTA SA

2000 sp4 was the best Windows, most Stable one since ever, but ME and 98SE are the best as the older games like doom and Command and Conquer for Windows 95 Work flawlessy OTB.

Well taking the term "favourite" to mean the one I had the most fun with. Definately the different MS-DOS variants as I used MS-DOS/Windows 3.x as a primary OS for at least 7 years and the things you could do/learn was endless. So much fun trying to get things to work etc

Windows XP (SP2 Build 2662) (2462 SetupDD).
The most "minimalized" OS. (WinRoot, Windows NCLI, TinyKRNL)

or

Windows NT OS/2 Version 3.1, The father of all NT Based OS:es.

I think I'd have to say Windows NT 3.51. The most streamlined of all the NT OSes, and the best version, in my opinion, of the 3.x interface.

Project idea: continue development of Windows 3.x interface on BA?

Windows XP. It's the most compatible and doesn't have so much crashed as Vista has. I think all 9x kernel OS's is only for VMware :)

Windows Vista. After using XP for years i think it's getting slower with every start up. I don't have any problems with Vista. :)

Well ok ... I'm using xp yet for playing games 8-)
