Has anyone got it working yet? I've not yet managed to build it, but I've got 2 different versions.

What's the exact reason for Singularity, anyway - is it just, simply, for research - a vehicle to show people how Microsoft software works - or is it eventually supposed to become part of a marketed system?

As for the purpose, I have no idea. As far as I know it was simply meant as a research project.

As for what it's turned into, Wikipedia has a decent but short rundown: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midori_(operating_system)

Ive worked a lot with Singularity. I can get it to build, in general. The code is really bad. Really bad.

Thanks :) downloading now.

What are its system requirements, and can it be installed to a fixed disk?

EDIT: I've got it working in 196MB RAM, and it doesn't seem to install. What programs are included?

Nope, you can't install anything. Just insert the disc and boot from it.
Maybe it is possible to copy the files to a bootable hdd and then start it from there, but I haven't tried this.

It is a research OS. I can't say much regarding the driver support, well, my screen, my mouse and my keyboard worked. When I used it within a VM, I also could hear some sounds.

Yes you can use C# to program it, but other .NET languages should be also possible, everything is written in managed code. The kernel is written in Sing#, which is a derivate of Spec#, which is a derivate of C#. :P

As for hardware support, I tried it on one of my older (3-4 years) AMD OEM PCs and it froze at a certain point during boot. Works fine in a VM though! It's nothing too much to look at anyway. I couldn't even figure out how to change directories. CD and CHDIR didn't work and I couldn't think of anything else, you can DIR [dirname] though. Remember to use forward slashes doing that.

Channel 9 is great for that sort of thing, I think they actually have three or four videos on Singularity. I wish they would update more often though.

Just a little Question:
What's your intention while using it? Can you feel a Performance boost? Just to take a look at the Code of this OS? To look, whats the way which microsoft will maybe go?

Actually i don't see while you should use Singularity. Are there any special Features?

Please let me know some facts - maybe you make me wan't to test Singularity too :)
