Talked the seller into Buy-It-Now for 60 Euros (approx. US$90). I could maybe have gotten it for less but didn't want to risk having to pay significantly more due to other bidders or even "losing" it to someone else. Anyway, NTe is worth that much to me given how rare such a version (seems to be a full one) seemingly is. Now I just hope it's real and not just a service pack but looking at the CD with the key and all, I think it is. Additionally, I don't even think there ever was a SP6 for NTe.

That would be a cool thing to test: if the SP6 for NT 4.0 works on NTe.

According to MS, it does. Link. It's the standard SP6, which also means the CD I bought is very probably not just an SP since it has the Embedded logo on it (which it wouldn't have if it were just a SP CD, checked a SP6 CD I have).

What's that supposed to say? I bought that copy for a considerable amount of money, and I have no intentions of uploading this to any server.

but thats a pretty expensive thing (for an older version of windows) to test too
I guess its rare which leads to a high price

Since this is being hoarded, I am uploading my copy as we speak.

Enjoy guys.

Tis done folks. I'm not sure if this is the one I removed the need for a serial or not. If it is, just let me know, and I'll post that as well.

Hey, Emp... When you get it (if you haven't already) what kind of thing would that thing run on? iPods? Palm? Nokia?

Just interested to hear ^^

NT Embedded is x86 only. So no iPods, Palms or Nokia devices. :)

Did anyone manage to create a installation working yet?

Regardless what I try, I am getting this error:

Even the sample configurations doesn't work for me - same error :S

Have you tried removing the TCP/IP utilities? I haven't received my copy yet so can't try to reproduce the problem. I'll see how far I get when it's here.

By the way, has anyone had a look at the binary repository yet? Any chance of a winnt256.bmp or lanma256.bmp being there, compressed or not?

:D

It contains an i386 folder which looks to be the same as the one that comes on a normal NT disc, it presumably extracts the parts required from there to build a custom image - it's quite big (170 MB) though, it maybe includes Server components too as there is some documentation on Windows NT Server included.

By the way, anyone know what the second disc in the set is? (the one on the server is just CD1)

Yeah, I tired that. I also tried the sample configuration "Minimal no network" - same network error :S

That was exactly what I was hoping for. :) Can't wait! *drool* Any Lanma256.bmp in there? Yes, as NTe can be both Workstation and Server the "binary repository" needs to include components from both. About the second disc – as soon as mine arrives, I'll enlighten you! :)

That is lanma256.bm_, there isn't a winnt256 as far as I can see.

According to the readme this produces installations that will only run for 60 days. I don't know if it's possible to circumvent this or not or what would make the timebomb (eg if some files from a normal NT could be used to convert the resulting installs to full copies)

This nice logo comes from the Reviewers' Guide document on the CD though:

Strangely this document says "Windows 2000 Server Beta 2" in the footer :S
