NT5 1877 on EEE PC?

Post by Biohead »

I've downloaded a copy of 1877, and I'm interested in installing it on the EEE PC 701.

If you don't know, you have to use an external USB drive to do most things or use USB or SD memory.

When I try to load the NT5 CD, it justs hangs at "Starting Windows NT" on the bluescreen. I've tried to load DOS the execute "winnt.exe /B" but then it can't copy all the files over (stops at 30odd %).

My last try is to load a BartPE CD over USB and run winnt32.exe. But if that doesnt work does anyone have any ideas?

I would suggest that you use VMWare or Microsoft Virtual PC.

It probably won't run on it because the Intel Atom in it is designed differently compared to a desktop processor. Just my guess.

That´s wrong. The Intel Atom is designed for UMPC. Look at the THC Shift. Its cpu is an Atom with 800MHz and Vista is running on it.

Has you already tried to install this build from USB-stick?

Installing that build on EEE PC is not recommended.
I tried to install it, its very unstable on this computer type. Most of the drivers EEE needs cannot be installed on NT 5.

Yeh, the Atom is x86, but this is irrelevant, since he has a 701 model, which is still the Celeron M-based version

I know Windows 2000 works on the EeePC (I was able to get drivers for everything except the webcam), but any NT5 builds that require NT4 drivers probably won't work too well.

:/

I KNOW it won't run it spectacularly, but thats not what it's about is it?

Its IF you can get it working. And even more so handy with it being SSD and including a 5 minute recovery DVD - the EEE is an ideal test platform and (almost) instantly recoverable.

It worked fine by booting a BartPE CD then running winnt32.exe from USB. Unfortunately, I can't install my CD drive so I can't install my drivers. But it's a nice little platform.

And yes, my EEE is Dothan-Celeron based, not Atom based.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the Atom machines aren't out yet anyway.

I think there ARE some 901 or 1001's that have it, but they are very scarce at the moment.

I was saying the beta build for Windows NT was primarily designed for desktops.
