Post subject:  Installing Windows NT3.51 on Virtual PC 2007

Has anyone experienced problems installing Windows NT 3.51 on Virtual PC 2007?

I have managed it on my Windows XP machine with no dramas, however on my Windows Vista Ultimate machine (64bit) it hangs at 50% on the first stage install, then again at 98%, then again when its creating the startup enviornment, then when the Boot loader appears after the restart I get a total hang on the virtual machine.

I have even copied the Virtual Machine over from my XP machine to my Vista(64) machine, it boots slowly and when restarting the virtual HD is corrupted?

On my Windows Vista machine I have OS2 1.3,2,2.1,3 & 4, Windows 3.11, 95, 98, NT4, XP, Neptune & Longhorn all running perfectly okay.

Has anyone any ideas why I'm having such problems with NT 3.51?

Thanks in advance

instead of searching tons of posts:

Install Windows NT from MS-DOS:

1) Install MS-DOS (5 or 6) on an 200MB partition (of 500MB harddrive)
2) Make a directory like i386 on C:
3) Copy ALL files including sub-folder into c:\i386
4) Copy the files from the Windows Collection Book Disk 2.vfd (Windows NT 3.51 fix disk)
Use: A:\*.* C:\i386\*.*
4) Start setup from c:\i386\winnt (when using NT 3.51 use: c:\i386\winnt /s:c:\i386 /b /x
/s = source
/b = floppyless
/x = do not create setup boot floppies
5) Now setup will proceed.

Be sure to the use patched files, otherwise the Harddisk cannot be found.

Thanks.

Works perfectly, one thing to add is that if you install Service Pack 5 make sure you reapply the Fix disk, this time to the directory

c:\WINNT35\System32\drivers

Failing to do this produces the famous blue screen of death.

Thats because the Fix Disk contains the versions from NT 4.0 SP6.

And NT 3.51 SP5 overwrites those files.
