Why 'rtm.040803-2158' changes to 'gdr.070227-2254'?
There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158): This is the buildtag of the XP SP2 RTM.
5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254): After installing some hotfixes/updtaes/whatever the buildtag changes to this. gdr=general distribution release

but why did it change DURING the setup If they made a kernel change, I think it would require some updates to install

Setup.exe is only the program that you see when you pop in the CD in Windows.

To start the setup, or browse the CD, or install aditional components.
(if autorun enabled)

The second one is from the NTOSKRNL.EXE thats installed in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Thanks, but I knew of service pack 2, I was rather hoping to find the latest service pack 3 build.
I suppose I should have said that above.
I found an http link to build 5508, is there a later one out that I haven't found yet.
Thanks.

The site is full of ads, very annoying.
And some downloads contains VIRUSSES!.

I have download 5 times there and 4 times there were virusses!
You have been warned.
