I usually install OS's during the day in VPC inbetween work, popping into
the office now & then to press a key to continue or whatever & thought
I'd confirm the build used in Windows Home Server...
In looking through the inf files I noticed that there was mention of
Small Business Server so I installed it to confirm it was, which it did turn
out to be, however it still says WHS on the desktop, it's a 360 day OS,
yet the eula says it's a 180 day, plus the eula is from an old Whistler
build which I thought odd, was this really thrown together that quick that
they just used the 1st available eula at hand.?

Yes, the Server 2003 build they used in WHS is indeed the Small Business Server. The files in the \SVR_2003 folder look to be the complete install CD from the SBS 2003 OS...

I think WHS needs a bit of wrapping and polishing. They need to remove all the Windows Server 2003 tags and logos and replace them with WHS ones. The works good, but doesn't look good.

Someone needs to just rip out the WHS specific files and try putting it on Longhorn server (and finding a way around the limitations, like one network card/no Routing & Remote Access, no active directory)

When I first heard of WHS, i thought it would be based on wls, but i don't know why they choosed windows server 2003 instead. The first build sucks, i found it lame containing nothing useful at all. These two builds got better but if it was wls based, i would be happier. LEt comon, it's 5 years old.

Personally it doesn't really matter to me what it is based on but when they took Windows 2003 with its rather low system requirements and make it that you need 512mb RAM that makes me wonder why not just use Longhorn Server...

Hi !

I'm installing it on my last desktop computer : Atlon XP 2000+ @ 1250 Mhz, with 1.5 Gb of Ram.

I would have prefer a WLS based build but Win Serv 2k3 doesn't need as much resources as WLS...

What do you think about the WHS project ? Do you think it could be really interresting for people to have one ?
