I downloaded both files, I installed both in Virtual PC, but both have the Windows 98 original boot screen, both have the words Windows 98 instead of Windows 98 Second Edition. But when I type in winver it says Copyright 1991-1999, and when I check the computer properties, both says Windows 98 Second Edition, 4.10.2222 A.

Now my question is, is it really Windows 98 SE or is it Windows 98? Because I don't think a Windows 98 SE vhd is 250 MB big...

Both are Windows 98 SE (v4.10.2222.0(A)). Windows 98 is commonly refered to Win98 SE.

People escpecially who believe it's real, it's a HACK from a normal Windows 98 build 1998, just everything is turned to 1999.

@squidward_, search the forum and you will find.
And please remove it from your post that it's real.

But the ISO appears to be drastically smaller!

But is it first or second edition? I have a Windows 98 SE iso, size is 655MB, when compressed it's
545 MB. The 2 Windows 98 SE ISO files found in the FTP are less than 130MB big. Maybe the 130MB files were edited so that all '1998's are now '2222A's?

They're the same, but now I finally seem to understand, the 127MB isos are slimed down to the point where it has the necessary installation files, and nothing else. For some reason Windows 98 SE ISOs have a bunch of junk, and a folder called drivers(has nothing to do about the driver.cab files). Also, Windows 98 SE has the same boot screen as the original. So the only obvious visual differences between Windows 98 and SE is that it will say 1981-1999 when you type winver in command.com. The other obvious difference is when you click on Properties on My Computer, it will say 4.10.2222A

Basically, the 130MB ISOs are Windows 98 SE, but only the Win98 folder is present.

and Windows98SE comes with IE5 and Outlook Express 5 plus no channel bar, and more driver support.

I know obviously it doesn't have built in support, but can Windows 98 support USB 2.0? And if so, is it only the Second Edition that can?

You'll need seperate drivers for that.
