How to make Chicago Build 58s in 800x600 with 256 colors?

I have changed the drivers in monitor settings such as S3, XGA etc but all failed. :(

Thanks

Funny this, certain know it all members {wont mention names} went on to state how
my fixes of chicago are such a mess, yet the last fix I did of this not only runs in
800 x 600, but also 1024 x 768...
I happen to have screens of it in my screens collection folder, never did release it...
I may even have a VHD of it saved somewhere in the backups, if you're wanting
more screens of it that is, take me a day or 2 to find it though...

I guess my fixes really are junk... 8-)

I know I'm not the more respected person here, especially after that Windows 1.00 caper last year, but I can't see why we can't all behave like adults. KenOath, I respect you greatly, as do most of the people on here; it is down to you that we are able to run the fixed versions of Chicago that we can. The one or two people on here who've given you a hard time (and I can guess who one of them is) have given me and a load of other people a hard time, too. They should be removed, because they're detracting from our experience as a community.

I've never had any problems with your fixed versions of Chicago at all, apart from the one I asked you about, which was probably just down to ignorance on my part.

To those idiots: you know who you are.

Nice, though :). I've just been trying to get Chicago 56 working at 800*600 on my laptop (native) and it wouldn't work. Wouldn't give a reason why, just wouldn't work at all; just kind of said "err. No."

What exactly is "fixed" and why won't it run in 800x600+ without it? Just curious... is it some driver issue or bug?

If I remember correctly, KenOath would fix them as in remove the timebombs.

I think he changed some other files too, to make the systems usable to some degree, and changed the later ones so that BSID wasn't required to install.

I read the entire contents of all the inf files in both 58s & 73g, to validate
what files where missing, & searched through every beta I had until i'd
found replacements for the missing files, took weeks/months...
I also edited the appropriate file/s to ensure they installed without the
cab32.exe error on 1st boot, & with 58s fixed the error you once got
on every bootup, about being unable to find network.drv...
The latest fix was finding the most compatible vga drivers available for it,
& replacing the old with the new, in order to run the different resolutions...
I also found files which looked as though they'd had a bad dump from
the compiler at MS, & had carried on in a few builds, some even had thier
resources doubled up inside, the list would go on, of what all the fixes were though...
Then after the fallout with unblestone over the build 81 I cracked, I refused to
share any fixes from that point, I don't need the fallout from peoples
difference of opinions, & I certainly don't feel the need to justify myself
to ungrateful people....
Especially when it took 4 months of every spare moment, day & night, to
learn the appropriate measures in order to crack the beta sight ID & PW
prompt on 81, a beta that many better than me had failed to crack...

So no, I don't just remove timebombs from betas, & call them "fixed"
I FIX them, to the best of my ability, or did then anyhow, no time to waste
on such matters these days though, & no will to want to either...

KenOath, I think you'll find most of the people here will support you. As for those one or two who are just arses; leave them out of it, if they start off again, they'll get kicked into touch :).

I was just elaborating on what it was that I did to these betas...
Most people think I just remove timebombs, which was rarely the case...
I think I removed the TB from 2 or 3 Win95 betas, & ME_2380...
Anything else I removed the TB on was never uploaded...
When I'd 1st obtained the alpha 95 builds in 2003, none would install without
spending more time on them than most was willing to spend on them...
