Hi anyone know how to install Windows Chicago into Virtual Machine (I use VPC 2007)?

It installs as normal but then when I tried to boot it I got stuck with white cursor (it does this in every build that I tried) PS: I even tried using KenOath VHD but that wasn't work eather
Image

I tried builds 122, 72f, 72g

with build 222 (German) I got this: and then Virtual Machine restared

for 73g a fix was explaind there: http://djrob.betaarchive.co.uk/site/info/7.html but this site is dead so I don't know what to do

PS: Anyone know how to install Connectx Virtual PC side by side with Microsoft Virtual PC 2007

So what is the best program for runing Chicago build on it?

Best Regards and Thanks for Answering

I recommend you use Virtualbox, as I got 73g running on that.

The second one (222 German) means that the timebomb went off and patched the IO.SYS to render the computer unbootable. So make sure you set your BIOS date back to Nov 9, 1994.
Also, that djrob site you linked to is now TCB, here's its page on 73g: http://www.thecollectionbook.info/build ... ws/build/4

222 is one of the first with a timebomb.

How to run Chicago on MS Virtual PC 2007:
1. Try to select older CPU, such as 80386, 80486, Pentium 1.
2. Try to set less amount of RAM.
How to detimebomb any version of Chicago:
1. Install MS-DOS after installing Chicago.
2. Reboot the VM.
3. Type C:\WINDOWS\WIN.COM in command prompt.
4. Chicago will run, you can forget about timebomb.

And you propose to do that exactly *how* in Virtual PC?

Try another virtual machine, for example: PCem, Bochs etc. They work fine with Chicago.

Then that's not Virtual PC 2007 now is it? Please give clear instructions to begin with...rather than leaving an extremely ambiguous post.

Considering Chicago will only run on MS-DOS 7.0 which doesn't exist as a standalone, I doubt that will work.

I don't know if it helps, but disabling Hardware Virtualization on Virtual PC 2007 can solve install problems for any Windows 95 build.

This affected every version of Windows 95, including the Chicago builds. In some cases it's enough to disable it and install the build with the usual method.

Use VMware Workstation. It runs everything!

It does (except for build 58s) and you will be surprised on how many things it can run actually.

Let me show you this if you are not convinced by the fact VMware Workstation does run every Chicago betas :

I have to admit, I cheated a little bit here, since early Chicago builds installers does not work correctly with the cd-rom VMware emulates but it's possible.

Early Chicago builds can be difficult to get running in some hypervisors (VPC) due to their special needs and VPC's rather odd hardware emulation. I've had success with builds up to and including 81. I wasn't able to get any of the later builds running (up to some build in 2xx range IIRC).

Connectix VPC is not a solution for this because it won't run on anything later than XP SP1 due to PAE and DEP compatibility issues. You can get it running on 32-bit Windows 7 (see here).

As others have suggested, try using other hypervisors/emulators for troublesome builds.

So you were right. I remember that VMware runs Chicago builds 99 and 116. IDK what about 56,58, 73 and 81, but thank you for information.

Well, the reason that it gets stuck (in the OP's screenshot) is because of the fast processor you have that leads to a ndis.386 failure (it gets installed by default even with no networking components in 122, 116 too) and of course the built-in IBM S3 trio bios that VPC2007 has.

I really recommend to use PCem v9 or PCem-X for Chicago, as they emulate period machines, including the CPU's.

I installed Windows Chicago 4.00.405 to Qemu PC
but the Cirrus Logic 5446 PCI video driver which always works with Qemu doesn't work. Is there a way to fix it?

By default, Win95 405 doesn't ship with drivers for the GD5446 that Qemu emulates, you have much better luck with PCem-X by Battler as it emulates video cards that are appropriate for 405 :)

You could just sys c: from a DOS prompt (bootdisk or otherwise) & it'll work fine. Timebomb will disappear this way. Also, sorry for the necro.
