Post subject:  Weird things I did with Windows 95 at the age of 5

When I was around 5, I got an old box with Windows 95 on it.
(I always get the handmedown computers)
I thought this was great, only that I didn't know how to read.
One day, I started messing around in control panel and
C:\(keep in mind no one else uses this computer), and somehow
I got it to display in CGA graphics one one account, run
extremely fast on the other, and crash on the last.
This is only a quarter of what I did, I can't remember anything else
I got it to do. Does anyone have a guess on how I got all of this to happen?

Did you use the Windows 3.1 CGA Driver?

You think THAT's something...

When I was five, my Windows 95 computer was playing up. My brother told me it needed formatting. I thought 'I can do that!'. I went into C:\Windows, and decided to 'help' by formatting for my brother. I put all of C:\Windows into the recycle bin, then wondered why the whole screen went white!

When I was five, Windows 95 was not even released. Back in 1992, I used to screw up the Windows 3.1 install on my machine (which was slow as hell) again and again by doing all kinds of weird stuff, mostly because I didn't really know how to use that ever-crashing "OS" properly.

I rely can't reply to that with a definite answer, as

I remember causing blue screens all the time in windows 95. I used to press a bunch of buttons at once on the keyboard and go into places I wasnt supposed to be. I also screwed around in the control panel alot.

Ah good times. :)

When I was around 5-7, I got my first computer. I remember I had access to the free netzero dialup, and had 10 hours of access per month.

I remember fooling around on DOS 4.1, and GWBASIC at the age of 7. I grew up on DOS, and only started using Windows in 1994. I then proceded to reformat the machine, and did not have the reinstall diskettes for Windows, so I ended up with using DOS for another 2.5 years until we got a computer in the house. We finally got a Windows 95-based Sony VAIO (They had just come out), which I ended up installing 98, and 98SE before the motherboard died. I then ordered parts to rebuild the system, but by that time, I was about 13 years old.

I'm 21 now, and value the fact that I had to deal with DOS for so many years - I probably wouldn't have ended up working on computers for a living if I had, say, a Mac or a Windows-based machine during those young years of my life.

I remember screwing up the config.sys file numerous times, having to restore from a boot disk (which I made several copies of). I also worked on an old Panasonic Sr. Partner system, which can be found here: http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=498&st=1

When i as 5 I never used Windows, we had one computer running it but I was never allowed on it.
At 3 however we got a mac, and when it was running I got on and the first thing I did was to proceed to throw everything in the trash. I nearly threw away the hardrive but my parents stopped me before that. It probably wouldn't have worked anyway since the computer needed to have empty trashed clicked first
