I got to playing with some French guys package that was supposed to
install the MS-Dos 7.00 Beta directly onto a clean drive..
I've been playing with it on & off for probably 2 years now..
Everytime I find it trolling through the backups, I have another go at
getting it to install,I have a play, get frustrated, put it aside,
have another go, the put itaside again...
I'd also been attempting to use the original Dos 6.22 GUI installer &
had it to the point where it did indeed install, but on reboot would
error about wrong command.com or something to that tune...

So, I just made it simply make the drive bootable & then make the Dos
folder & copy the contents to it, as well as copy an Autoexec.bat &
Config.sys & also add CD-rom support , then boot directly into Dosshell
similar to how IBM Dos does...
I also edited the Dosshell.ini to include all the apps that came with Dos
so they could all be ran from the menu's & sub menu's, to avoid the
need to run it from the run command & have to browse to where the
file is in the Dos directory..
The iso is also bootable, & a bootdisk is rarred with the iso for older
systems...
Most of you may already know it, but this was the only official Dos
released by MS {not publically}as a standalone Dos that had {Native
32bit support},Or "32 bit Protected mode" or so I'd read...
I'd also learned that this particular build attempted to load win.com &
boot directly into Windows, Hence the "AUTOWIN.COM" file included in
this distribution, so as to add it to the Autoexec.bat file as
Autowin off - to boot directly into Dos only - OR - "Autowin on" to attempt
to boot directly into windows...
Which explains why the error message displayed "Cannot to find
Win.com - Unable to continue loading Windows" when a floppy was
made bootable when formatted from a dos prompt within both Chicago
builds 58 & 73, as the same dos 7.00 beta was used as their foundation

The Bootable iso along with a bootdisk for older systems rarred is
4.91 mb, nothing special I guess, but does anyone want it..?
I'll up it to a file sharing host if so...!

Here's the download of this Dos7 Beta iso I made...
This is the 1st attempt at making it install as a working OS at the moment
so it's just a file copy installation that works as a US language version
only..
I'll have a play with it & make it install with language options earlier on
next year when business isn't so hectic & things have quitened down a
little...
The iso is bootable, & a bootdisk is supplied as well for those playing on
older systems...
The password to unrar the archive is kenoath , all in lower case...

If I'd known frozenport was in fact "Network1.tk" then I'd have worked
out he was referring to his web site...
Otherwise, I didn't know Frozenport.com/Personal from a bar of soap...
However, I'm not about to make an account & give my email address
just to give something to someone so he'll have to download it here...

The readme.txt from the iso...
Quote:
This bootable installation of MS-Dos 7.00 Beta
codenamed "Jaguar" was made by KenOath, to
install with CD-Rom support & boot straight into
dosshell...

I have added most of the Dos editors & utilities to
the menu & sub-menu of dosshell to avoid the need
to browse to the file to execute it from the run
menu..
Mouse support is also included in this build, using
the genuine Microsoft mouse driver...

You'll notice when booting directly from the iso,
an error will show, stating that it was unable to
patch command.com - make sure it's in your path..
Don't worry, it wont show once Dos is installed
onto the hard-drive...

The error shows because the command.com in this
build attempts to load straight into windows, I
added the AUTOWIN OFF command in the autoexec.bat
file to avoid the constant "Unable to find Win.com"
error that would normally show if the AUTOWIN OFF
command was not used...

As some of you may know, this was made to be a
version of Dos with 32bit Protected Mode support
& was the foundation of all early Windows 95 betas,
Hence the Windows Chicago picture overlayed on top
of the 4 Jaguars supplied with this package as found
on the Windows Chicago 58s build, the file is called
" Syslogo.rle "...

The disk image used to boot this iso is also
included as a bootdisk for older systems who
cannot boot directly from the CD drive..........

If you are going to use a floppy to boot your computer
instead of directly from the CD, be sure to use a new
floppy disk as I used every single byte spare on the
BootDisk...

You'll laugh at the pathetic attempt of a logo.sys on
the bootdisk, it's all I could come up with having
limited time to play these days.. :-)

The full installation takes under 30 seconds from the
time the CD boots, to the finish of the installation..

The password to un-rar the file is my name all in
lower case = kenoath

Enjoy your beta..!
KenOath..!

I get a 404 - file not found error.
Not that I particulary needed it anyhow.
