Trouble with WfW 3.11 and Win32s 1.1

Post by RichardG867 »

I'm having a BIG trouble with WfW 3.11 and Win32s 1.1 with OLE support.

When the installation was complete, Windows freezed at all except the mouse. I restarted the computer (actually a VPC virtual machine).

Then, whenever I start an Win32s app, I see a WIN32SXX exception on screen then Windows fastly turns back into DOS.

Google returns nada.
Reinstalling didn't worked for me.

The latest version is 1.3c. Find OLE32S13.EXE somewhere and install that.

Virtual PC is picky about what version of Win32s it will allow to run, It doesn't like later versions as I found out the hard way. Any ways the solution is to install v1.25 instead of a later version. Here is the source of the info: http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/ar ... 51439.aspx

I wish someone would port WINE to Win32s in 3.x.

Or reverse engineer Windows 3.1

Thats nearly impossible, WINE is purely coded on the Linux Kernel, it would take like 1 year, to port it successfully to the Windows 3.1 OS.

A year isn't that long. It can't be that hard to port it either.

Well... they have a release for Windows itself, as well as BSD and Solaris. I would imagine the real problems would be finding a Win32s compiler for it.
