They're worth it if you have the money to buy the Unit and Tapes, if not, then it isn't worth it.

I have every single beta backed up on an internal drive in a computer that I don't use much anymore and again on a half-terabyte external hard drive, not to mention most were burned to a CD/DVD at one time or another. There's no way I'm losing these babies.

I have CDs and DVDs of most of my Operating Systems, originals or copies. In addition to this I've been making ISOs and putting them on my nework server with its new 250GB Hard Disk. At the rate I'm going I may need to buy an additional 250GB Hd sometime. I haven't started on my QIC tapes yet, but my plan is to make .img files of them using dd.

I had my 250GB in a USB shell, but it was complete [censored]. I plan on moving it to my server soon and setting up a PXE server, so I can run any of the install CD's over the network.

I'm old beta and abandonware collector. This is my method of storing files:
1. A huge (104CDs) CD/DVD case, it looks like a bigger book, made from fabric and plastic foil.
2. A friend in high school / academy (in my case it's Polish Agricultural Academy). I know some professors here, and they have huge archives of CDs with student's work. Some of these CDs are 5-6 years old, some are not needed. My friend gave ma about 400 CDs with students' presentations in PowerPoint. They are filled in max. 10%, so I can add one more session. It's a free archive space!

2)On external HDDs
3)On DVDs

i store some of my favorite files/most used files locally on a 120 GB hard drive, then the lesser used but still somewhat nessesary/to show off i store on DVD's, and soon blueray.
And everything is stored on a massive (in the TBs) remote FTP server, with connections only allowed from my computer on a certain random port.

Currently I have only ~25GBytes of betas stored on my PIV hard drive, but I am planning to build a small Celeron 533 server with few hard drives, download betas from FTP servers and store betas on it. Otherwise, i will store betas on DVDs.

I have all my betas on my 400GB HDD. My collection isn't huge yet, a few Chicagos, some Memphis and a Whistler, but I'm putting it on my external HD (500GB)

I store them twice:
1.) On extra HDD.
2.) On shared network drive, for access from all my computers.

I've been actively visiting sites like these since the summer of 2005, however I've just started collecting betas now.

My plan for storing them would be to initially install them so I can rename the images according to the build tag/number, compress them with UHARC and then burn them onto a DVD. In addition, MD5 checksums will be included somewhere in the process for integrity checking.

I've got them stored on my internal HD. If my disk fails I'm in deep trouble, because there's too much for making backups of (about 200GB) and there's a lot of stuff that wouldn't be easy to get again.
