I'm genuinely interested to find out how people keep their collections.

Do you backup? Do you have it in one place? Do you use a raid configuration?

What formats do you keep them in? Do you keep them as native formats (ISO / Bin / VHD) or do you rar them all up?

:)

I keep my betas in the original format they were downloaded in (usually .rar) on my 500 gb Hard Drive and Back it up to my 340 gb HD. Both are just standard SATA drives.

My beta files are kept on my external 160gb hdd, in the .iso format, orginized into: first, Architecture, second: OS
I keep them in .iso form so that I can mount\burn them when I need to.

Store: Harddrives, 1.5TB (2x) with only Microsoft Products in Alpha/Beta/RC and RTM, 1 drive for ''Under Construction'' and 1 drive for ''RTM''.

RAID: NO and never will, too much stuff can go wrong.

Backup: No/Yes (DO NOT START TO FLAME!!), if I can redownload it, no, otherwise yes, but plans are for identical storage capacity to mirror it my self.

Formats: Native format, if I compress it all, I can save 20gb at maximum, not worth a shot if you have space enough

Example storage format:
H:\01 - Operating Systems\04 - Microsoft Windows NT Kernel\06 - Microsoft Windows XP\05 - Professional\Dutch\x86

    H:\ = Drive
01 - Operating Systems = Specifies type, OS, Office, Exchange
04 - Microsoft Windows NT Kernel = Kind of Kernel
06 - Microsoft Windows XP = Windows Version
    05 - Professional = SKU
    Dutch = Language
    x86 = Architecture

And under there it's just the .iso/.bin/.img/.vfd/.flp/.ima/.vhd/ etc.etc.etc.

I keep all of my stuff on a file server. The file server has 1TB of RAID10 storage. Attached to the file server is a 1TB external USB HD for a nightly backup (diff). All disk images are in some sort of raw format, bz2'd.

I have everything on my external HD (500GB). I don't backup, as I don't have enough storage for that. I have only some early builds on DVDs and CDs. The longhorn/7 ones are too big for that.

I have them all rarred, as they come like that from the BA server, and I don't have any problems with that.

I have no idea what RAID is

When I have some time, I'm going to re-organise everything, as my collection is a big mess. It is sepperated in folders, but for Windows 7 every build has it's own folder, but older ones haven't. I still have to decide what to do with that. And I also have beta releted stuff (like the longhorn concept video, Copenhagen concept video, some documents) which is now in the folder by the real betas. I have no idea yet how to organise that. Maybe I see some good ideas here :P.

You do realise the Copenhagen user experience isn't by Microsoft?

Backup? No

Formats: As they come off the BA server

My disk is actually full now, since a 1TB drive when formatted to NTFS holds 933GB and we have 928GB of betas on the server at present.

Stored on a 750GB Drive in my Home Server as the most original ISO available. Also kept both VHD and modified ISOs for 7 releases that leaked as VHDs and some of the Longhorn hacks too (LHR, etc). I keep them in the ISO/VHD because I prefer them to be ready to use, even if most don't see any use. I do have NTFS compression, which saves about 10%, but nothing more.

Any rare or unusual builds or hacks I burn to a DVD-R and store, but otherwise, I don't have the space nor the money to provide the space to keep extra backups, with my NT Folder now over 550Gb.

Stored in the following way:
\Operating Systems\{Family}\(VHD\){fullbuildtag}_{arch}{chk/fre}_{Server/Client}{SkuName}_{Localisation}.iso

Other betas just get lumped with other Software on my other 750Gb.

I have an Operating Systems folder, and underneath it I have folders for each major version of Windows, e.g. "Microsoft Windows 4.x", "Microsoft Windows NT 5.x", etc. I don't like to nest folders too much because I've never been able to maintain them well.

As with most important downloads my betas are sent to an SMB server on the network to back them up at the first available opportunity :)

I organize mine by OS and then have a source code folder and a Misc folder. Mine came directly off the BA server but I tried to compress them even more because I only have my 250GB HDD in my laptop to use.

Same here, burn 'em to disk, them when I'm done with them they get stuck in a folder and forgotten.

I burn all the stuff to DVDs when it leaks because I actually use it all.

Then it all gets lost and I find it years later. Occasionally I find Longhorn discs laying around from back when WinBeta used to do all the leaking.

Burn it or keep it on my iPod. Only have a 120GB HDD in my laptop... and well, the desktop has nothing...

No, I never really understood it. Thanks for telling me. I knew there was something with it, but I never really understood it.

All my betas are stored uncompressed (.exe, iso, vhd) on a 1.5TB drive, which also contains par2-files (15% redundancy). Most of the builds and the par2 files are also backed up on a 1TB drive.

This is the folder structure:

And inside the folders it looks like this:

Surprisingly for me, I keep my betas organised. I have folders labeled with the names of OSes and subfolders with build numbers. I have a 160 GB portable hard drive fully dedicated to betas and OSes.

I try to organize, but for me, its impossible. My collection is scattered everywhere...different drives, whatever. I even found my Chicago 81 in the Windows folder.
