Hello all,

Has anyone managed to get rSync and cygwin working on a Win32 system to Win32 system? I've just spent 2 hours this evening messing about with it and I can't for the life of me get it working. I know they're communicating because if I kill the daemon then the client reports errors that it doesn't when its open, but it refuses to send files and reports no errors what-so-ever.

I've tried the various ports, and I currently use DeltaCopy, but that is really slow and often fails with generic errors (and I have no idea what causes it). As a result I have to have the retry count set at 999! Sometimes it will hit 700+ retries before it actually works.

If rSync is just an impossibility on Windows, does anyone have a client/server combination that works exactly the same way? By that I mean it has the following features:

Code:
# Compression
# Incremental updates
# Permissions copying
# Date/time copying

The last two aren't so important but the first two definitely are.

Thanks in advance.

I searched in Google and I think this can help you a little:

EDIT: These are the other results:

I already came across that page on my several hour long quest for answers, to no avail. And I used a lot of google searches as well, again to no avail. Every method of using rsync I tried all failed, and none of them gave any errors that I could use to even find out what the problem is.

Anyway, I think I have found my new backup solution. SyncBackSE. Although not so elegant feature wise, it does at least work 100% of the time and its much faster too (uses over 10x the bandwidth rsync does so its at least using my connection to a larger degree).

Keep looking though, if an rsync fix can be found I'd go straight back to it.

Honestly, I never had issues ever. Did you actually install cygwin, or cherry pick the parts you needed?

cygwin just came as a stand alone DLL, it was never installed. I followed every tutorial I could find and none of them worked.
