It shouldn't appear until 30 days after your install. I've set my clock forward and seen the same thing. Other than being annoying, it shouldn't effect your use of Office (at least not that I've seen in my copy with the date set forward). With any luck someone should figure out a way to hide it permanently soon, or you could just deal with it until the official TechPreview is released...

Does this preview have an expiration date listed? Just out of curiosity, what would happen if you set the clock forward a lot, say 10 years? Does it mean we have a version of 2010 that will work [well or not] forever?

In the EULA there was an expiration date... I just can't remember what it was...

So that would mean they didn't abandon their post completely. The unfortunate thing is that there will always be piracy; regardless of what Microsoft does, the pirates figure out a way around it, and they may figure out the same for that.

Interesting. I've seen a few programs do that, I think some old Macromedia stuff if I remember correctly. Does it append anything to a document you save?

When Microsoft first started WGA, they would claim took a "let's annoy them as much as possible" stance, as the WGA popup would come up frequently when using the computer, although there were no dire effects. This evolved into Vista's "Black Screen of Death", but now Microsoft seems to be more laid back then they were originally, as it's still possible to use an unlicensed Vista, as well as run Server 2008 without a key for 240 days (the types who run Server 2008 at home are the same people that would reinstall every two months anyways).

Give me the MSO.dll of this and I will patch the telephone activation to accept any number.

It's in %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\

Look for a folder called Office**

with the ** being replaced by a number.

grab MSO.dll and upload it, I'll patch it for you.

That's fine on this site because it's a beta right?

How about a 32-bits also?

You can do that if you want, but you can't provide the patched file publically to BA. A patched file circumvents the natural timebomb in the product, so essentially it's a crack. BA doesn't provide cracks for betas or abandonware.

How about PM?

PM is fine, you can do what you like there. Just don't post such items publicly.

I'm hoping the same method that works with 2k3 and 2k7 works on it. I'll try to patch MSO.dll's telephone activation to allow any number that is typed to pass activation.
