Im sure anyone who has played Portal before will be freaking out a little bit right now. I think it is awesome.

... A real POrtal is possible, it's been proven. But only theoretically. You'd need something the size of CERN, possibly larger, to generate enough power to do so.

If I recall, it's something to do with splitting atoms on sub-atomic level and oscillating both halves of each atom at a frequency high enough to disrupt the mass and space between them. Or maybe I'm spouting ideas out of my head. :S

Perhaps we could draw some POrtal ideas...

LOL, a theory is not a proof, it's something that may lead up to a conclusive proof pending on the observations and measurement of a theory. My theory is that portals can be created using a car wheel and a 30W lightbulb. I can't prove it however since I can't build such device, thus not measure the results and document it with solid facts... :). I've read about the CERN experiments and nothing has been produced yet, however they think they may be able to produce a "portal", but not in the means shown in the game (a gateway etc) but in a way of accelerating matter beyond light speed, thus moving it instantly to a different point in space. Essentially a device capable of this will be a portal of some sorts. It's all in how you define a portal, as an actual gateway/door or a device you step through. CERN already managed to accelerate a photon (what light is made of) beyond its (normally) maximum speed. Matter is a bit harder though.

A teleporter could be a portal of some sorts. If a portal were to be created and successfully transform any piece of matter without distorting it then we would have solved all the transportation needs forever. We would be able to move instantly from any point of the universe to an another. Now that would cut down on my transportation costs... Anyone up for a spa vacation on Proxima? :).

Regarding the mockup, it's really cool. I am a big fan of Portal (see my sig for hints :P) and this little thing would do great on my desk here :).
