Hi,

If any of you are interested, there is another forum in the same field as this. It was started by 4 ver dedicated members from OSBA when it shut down. I hope this is not seen as a threat, but it is just another great place for people who are into this.

If you want to check it out it is : vipertech.org

cheers

HougTimo

I also decided to work on the situation when I saw that OSBA was closed, and I've been working on AbandonBeta.com. I've been doing a lot of behind the scenes work and I should have the BT tracker up in a few days. But I think I'll have to change hosting providers, I read that netfirms has a ridiculously low MySQL connection limit, which will be a big problem with a tracker. I'll just have to wait and see.

There are a lot more than 3 sites, there's neowin and msbetas for instance.

I'm still working on the tracker and the new theme. Should be a few days or a week.

Your right. It would be better for members to put everything in one place rather than on several sites run by different people and having different themes, layouts, rules etc.

It would be better to have redundancy so that a whole community is not affected by a site problem.

Redunancy is good, sure, but division is not redundancy. Basically, the situation now is that if one site goes down, the members on that site don't have redundancy unless they signed up for another site. Backups are probably teh best way. Personally, I believe we should have all OSBA forks reconnected. There are site ownership and branding issues in there, too, of course, but it's better than being divided.

Yeah, but some people like ViperTech better. I'm happy we've been able to bring a lot of former members back, but we absolutely have to try and build a stronger community.

Elitism should not be welcome here or at ViperTech. Obviously, big contributors deserve respect, but they shouldn't shut themselves off from everyone else.

We also have to hit the trolling, leeching and spam problem before it starts. We can accomplish this with stricter rules and more mods, a screening process, or higher post count requirements. Those are probably basic measures, but they can obviously be extended with more positive methods.
