I get prompted with this message on installation on Windows 7 RC (7100) x64.

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now."

I'm immediately going wtf and going er..........

Any suggestions where I went wrong?

Yes, the SATA driver is missing so Windows 7 cannot see your hard drive.

I call that weird, because I only have SATA drives (3), but the Install see them all.

Eh? It mentions nothing about Hard Drive.

And I'm a bit suprised that 7100 doesn't have the drivers. 7000 had them, vista had them... *bangs head on table*

That doesn't sound right. No drivers? Is this error in the installer or on first boot or?

Oh, my mistake

It was more aimed at Day2Die :P

It's at install. I find it really (really) odd.

I've tried shifting AHCI and IDE, looked in BIOS, etc etc. Will try the x86 edition (when it downloads)

(For reference, Acer Aspire 5315 with C2D 1.6ghz, 2GB ram, original HDD etc)

Two lefts and a diagonal sidestep from where you are.

I have an Acer Aspire 5515 that has the same problem. So it must be a problem with the Windows PE... but it boots normal up to that point... :? And I think the system specs are the same as mine (AMD Athlon 2650e [1.60GHz], 2.00GB RAM)

Since it says cd/dvd driver have you tried extracting the files to a usb drive and booting the installer from there? That or getting the driver and putting it on a usb stick?

Hmmrf :/

Well for now I've restored Vista Basic SP1, and will try the upgrade route at a later point. This time I'm attempting the x86 CD (the one I can find the key for)

I got this strange feeling the same thing will happen though

@zamadatix no and if i'm brutally honest I shouldn't need to! Oh well.

Why not make 2 partitions, 1 for Vista or XP and the other 1 for 7.
Extract the contents of the downloaded .iso to an folder on C:\ called DVD or something (not with spaces!!).

Then start the setup from the booted Vista or XP and then installed it to the other partition you set for 7.

It will automatically makes an bootmanager with 2 entries, the one folder Older Windows (if XP) and Windows Vista (if Vista).

Windows 7 is then default and 30 seconds countdown.

You can use Vista Boot Pro or EasyBCD to edit the boot entries to you're liking.

Don't worry, if you want to delete Windows 7 or the partition, just do so, and use EasyBCD to remove the 7 entry from the bootmanager and then you boot into XP and Vista again as only Operating System.

I would (and I did for a time) but fitting Windows Vista, 7 and OS X onto a tiny 74GB HDD is a struggle, even with my portable 40GB HDD housing my documents.
