Following on from this thread : viewtopic.php?f=54&t=7560

I've been with her all through Easter. I had to go back to work today, but she physically locked me in the house :/

Needless to say, I now have 3 not-very-happy clients wanting an explanation.

I really do not know what to do. I love her. I know she wouldn't stand a chance without someone to lean on. We went shopping yesterday and I was amazed that she didn't seem to have a clue... She wanted to spend practically her whole budget on muffins & crisps.

She also has no idea how to manage money, nor the value of money. She will happily go and spend her last £5er on something then wander why she can't afford something else later.

I know I've made her sound like a complete psycho, and possibly a retard, but she isn't! She's one of these grade A students etc... Can talk knowledgeably about a lot of stuff, yet when it comes to common sense....

:(

I've tried! I just get the "yeah, yeah, don't talk to me like a 2yr old" speech :(

She locked you out of the house? On purpose? Was there a reason?

I assume she has no ownership in the house and that it's not her name on the lease/mortgage.

I would kick her ass out and break up with her. She may be smart, beautiful and witty. But I certainly couldn't put up with someone who has no sense of responsibility. It sounds to me like you may like a lot about her, but that you two don't mesh. Pulling that stunt of locking you out would be the deal breaker for me.

A relationship isn't supposed to be one sided. And it sounds to me like you're more of a credit card than an equal. You could have called her every bad name in the book, but that still doesn't give her any right to lock you out of the house.

And if she doesn't want to be talked to like a 2 year old, then perhaps she should stop acting like one? You should possibly bring that up the next time she throws that crap at you.

No, she locked me IN the house, so I couldn't go to work.

The house is her parent's. But they have moved abroad.

I did bring it up that she was acting fairly childishly, but I just get this spew about her hating herself and what she does but she can't help it.......

But don't the doors lock from the inside?
I don't want to sound mean, but that is almost as strange as locking yourself INside your car...

The doors lock from the inside and outside. Can't gain access from either side if you don't have the key.

so there is a keyhole on both sides of the door?

wouldn't you have a key on your personal keyring?

Yes there is.

No, because it isn't my house.

If I was in your situation and couldn't think of anything better I would probably just change the locks when I could to single sided lockable ones and then be kind enough to give her a key as it is her parents house.

Why don't you get out through the big window(s)? Or is it doesn't have one?

You may call Emergency Services (Police) and explain to them the situation.

You could, but that would greatly antagonize the situation, plus... I mean... calling the cops because your girlfriend is trying to spend time with you... that's cold...

and probably the police will scold you back for calling them for no apparent reason...

No, you'd call the police because she's effectively keeping you prisoner. There are laws against this and the police would respond, however if that were to happen you could probably say goodbye to any chance of further relationship with her...

To be honest, if she has resorted to doing this, is she really the right person for you? I know it sounds harsh, but I'd never suggest it if I wasn't sure. She obviously won't listen to you, she's keeping you prisoner in the house and won't let you work... To me thats a bit odd. Maybe you should take some time away like I suggested last time.

Can we move away from the whole "she's breaking the law, call the police" thing, as hougtimo said, she was being stubborn and childish, you guys are acting as if they had some sort of domestic dispute/disturbance.

Hougtimo, what was her exact reason for locking you in the house?

Stubborn and childish or not, don't you think it was a bit dangerous? What if there was an accident, such as a fire? He'd have almost certainly burned to death not being able to get out of the house. You have to think of every side of the situation here. I know myself I wouldn't want to be with anyone that would do that to me, but thats just my personal opinion.

I don't know about the UK, but in the US, its against the fire code to put a double cylinder lock (the one with keyways on both sides) on an egress or exit door. Time to replace the locks and break up with your crazy girlfriend.

If that happened I'm sure she'd get charged with something serious anyway.

Why didn't you go out a window? I would break a window rather than miss work.

It's his girl friends parent's house so it wouldn't be a good idea to jump out the window in his case.

How so? She locked him in. It would be her darn fault.

This is something hougtimo should figure out with people from real life, not from a beta forum where people are just arguing about it.

If I remember this is the second time something like this has been posted, it is in the About You, Me and Everything Inbetween topic but still...
