(Image from http://www.computerweekly.com/galleries/233654-3/Kerry-Hoskins-c-1989-Amstrad-ALT286.htm)

It's got a 20MB hard drive and 640KB memory (ought to be enough for anybody). It boots up OK when plugged into the mains (the battery doesn't work properly). It has MS DOS 5 on it (with the shell). It weighs a ton and it has a pull-out handle. The screen is B/W. I tried to put Windows on it, but there is a problem with the floppy drive (apparently it's a common problem with this laptop). I opened it up to have a look, and the floppy drive had what looked like a normal floppy drive cable, but no power cable so I couldn't replace it. I'm sure it's not the lack of a power cable that is the problem because the drive itself had no slot for the cable.

Anyone else have an Amstrad ALT-286 laptop? Do you know what's going on with the floppy drive and how to go about fixing it?

This is the first old computer in my collection (apart from my ZX Spectrum +2). I hope to start collecting more old computers.

Just thought I'd share my most recent find.

I had an Amstrad XT which I couldn't format for some reason but yeah it was awesome. 30meg hdd power was provided from the monitor I used it for about 4 months before pulling it apart. When I got bored / it screwed up.
Edit: Noticed that some how (What is your budget on the high end one?) from the topic about 3 new pc's got in here so I am just noting I wasn't talking about this.
