PostPost subject: Technet vs MSDN subcription question        Posted: Sun Mar 15, 2009 12:12 am
I would like a Windows 7 (final) key for when it comes out, wich site and package (connect or msdn) should I subcribe to to get one

Do I have to wait for Windows 7 to be final to subscribe to recieve a final key or are they are available right now?

Anybody here a subscriber?

Your not going to get crap from connect (unless you made some big contributions) , the choice is between a Technet or MSDN subscription.

Well, MSDN is for developers, so it focuses a little more on things a developer would, whereas Technet is aimed at Administrators and whatnot. Visual Studio for example is available on MSDN but not Technet.
Both have different levels of subscription with different prices, it all depends on what you can afford.

Well I think I will wait for Windows 7 to be final and simply buy a key online, it seems cheaper

I thought if I subscribed to MSDN or Technet I would have recieved more than one key

I think you are able to generate multiple keys for multiple O.S.'s

TechNet Plus Direct is quite cheap compared to what just one retail licence costs and will you get you multiple keys for Windows, Windows Server, Office, etc; the Partner Action Pack is also quite a cheap way of getting them.

The address for a Technet subsciption is
http://technet.microsoft.com/hi-in/subs ... 8692(en-us).aspx
That is the US office. On the top riht of the page there are two small selections for your language and for another world office, if you wish. Here is a very small sample of what it can offer you:

I'd say go with Technet, if you really needed MSDN you'd know.

I would say go for Technet Direct.

It's download only but saves you about (well a bit less then) 50%.
Also If you buy it the first time it's going to cost more then a renewal.

Also on Technet there are no new Windows 7 builds newer then the 7000.
(In fact, it's the only build available).
Also you can get mutiple languages for each version.

Also as said, you can get multiple keys, most Windows software is RTL.
Example:

Windows Vista Ultimate, I already got 2 keys and still you can ask for more, they are RTL keys, wich means:

Also you can get only the first 4 sort of keys.

Custom key, Retail key, Static Activation Key, MAK keys (for Vista Enterprise).

All keys are you're keys except the STA key, wich is shared with everybody in Technet.
It simply bypasses activation.

Anytime.

The extra cost comes from making DVD's and sending them.

Also the key's and software that comes from there can be used for personal use only!, not for using inside an company, then still need to buy licenses.

It's only for personal use because it's for me and I thought to buy me something like that coz the Win7 would cost eh 320$ so why not buying for 30$ more some extras :)

And you can get keys for every version of Windows 7 then.
(At least it was the case with Vista).

To compare what's available on both, you can actually browse the download libraries without signing into a technet or MSDN account:

Technet:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/default.aspx

MSDN:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/cc137115.aspx

I'm considering getting a Technet myself, if I can save up the money.

Word of warning Jorgen. You get several keys for each software. Be careful who you share with. A couple of my acquaintances have had there accounts terminated through that, (And lost there money!!)
I have passed some on to my family in the past, but keep it under my account.
