OK, OK, so Ive come up with an idea, but it requires a little money. I say a little, its VERY little, but Id still rather not pay for it all myself. Donations are the easiest way.

Ive found a host who will offer 250GB webspace and 2100GB of bandwidth per month for £5.25 (US$10.50).

I have e-mailed them to see if they will allow our betas and Im awaiting their reply, so we can't get our hopes up yet.

What I want to know is are people prepared to donate a pound/dollar or two a month to keep the new ftp going if they will allow us? Its hardly a lot to ask, especially since these betas are relativly rare.

Thats just 5 people donating about £1/$2 a month. Its nothing!

Would you donate this small amount?

What's to stop the people hosting the server sharing the files themselves?

I started donations rolling with 5 pounds..

sounds good :). I'm surprised they let you host beta files, did you happen to mention what the beta files were?

I'll try to sort out something with paypal, the nz dollar isn't the greatest though :(

take a look at the EULA, MS said that you can speek and provide infos after 2 years after the release of the beta or after the release of the RTM. So it is allowed to hot the betas :)

But this only applies to "old" betas, not to "new" ones, right? I'm referring to Longhorn Server, for example. Would we be allowed to put this on the new server?

Beta's were referred to by me, to them, as freely available beta files. Other betas can go on the dedicated.

I'd like to take Jeff's comment for that question: Are there any ways to donate if using PayPal is not an option, for whichever reason?

I'd donate:
1. If I'd trust in international money transfers
2. If exchanging my HUFs to GBPs wouldn't take so much money and time
3. If I'd have any money that is unnecessary for my everyday life (don't think I'm a such selfish man, only having a mere $300 right now, which is required if I want to eat, drink and travel between my home and the college)

Im only asking for you to donate if you can, no need to force yourself to find money to donate.

The uploading is well under way. Im uploading the contents of the AbyssUnderground FTP server, this will run through till about 6pm GMT tomorrow. Thats almost 130gb to upload at the full 10Mbps. Ill then release the server as online.

Thanks again to the donators, its a great help. And thanks to anyone who wants to but can't donate. Life sucks when you're young and can't get paypal!

Hate to break it to ya but we're already using that

I was quoting a rough USD figure so it may not have been exact.

Not yet since I havent finished setting it up yet.

Im having issues with the FTP server on servage. It keeps telling me I have connected the maximum number of times (10) when I have not. I spent nearly all day yesterday without an FTP server, last night I managed to get one connection which was working intermittantly, and now its not working again at all.

Ive managed to upload 80GB of the 130GB on the server but I dont know what is finished and what is not, so I cant release it until everything is finished.

Its really f*****g p*****g me off now
