Are you running it as Administrator or did you disable the UAC?

Then they don't work, it's a bug.

Close your sidebar and try to re-register it

Run these commands from a CMD or Run... box

Code:
"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe" /RegServer

REGSVR32 "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sbdrop.dll"

REGSVR32 "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\wlsrvc.dll"

Do you have another browser other than IE set as your default browser?

If so temporarily set IE as you default browser and repeat the steps above, then you can set Firefox or whatever back as your default browser

Edit: I also notice that this is only happening with 3rd party gadgets, does it happen with original win7 gadgets also?

It may be a incompatibility or a language (EN-us/XX-xx) folder issue

Maybe someone on windows 7000 could give you the sidebar files so you could replace them and see if it works then (I wont be able to do that for a while) :)
