ok, i have a pata drive with 2 drives on it,a month ago i bought and installed a seagate ST31000333AS sata hard drive,i created 4x240 gigabyte partitions, yesterday windows xp pro sp2 says that my new seagate sata hard drive only has 1x502 megabyte drive on it,all of the partitions are gone!, so i tried fixmbr but it tells me i will lose my data, i installed another pata drive that has vista on it ( leaving the seagate drive as the slave drive) and it says that the hard drive only contains a 502 megabyte partition, so i got out my copy of EASEUS data recovery wizard professional and it tells me that the partitions are still there ( i backed up my vital data just in case! ), so does anyone have any suggestions, i just downloaded the newest version of the gparted live cd ,i booted that and it says the same thing :( : Image

I'd say use GParted then probably DBAN (on quickest setting) to remove the partitions then try again..

..maybe its faulty

I would say try the Ultiamte Boot CD for win, it may give some insight on it as there are some good drive tools on the disc.

This is kind of funny. I had a 500GB Seagate less than 3 months old that suddenly lost all of the partitions. Testdisk got them back but the drive had to be replaced for other reasons soon after. A few days ago, the RMA replacement drive also lost two of the partitions. Seagate really seem to have gone downhill since they bought up Maxtor.
Anyway, Testdisk is an excellent app which is seriously underrated, and always my first port of call whenever a drive has one of those funny moments.

I'm having the same problem too. 500GB Seagate only lasted 1 month before it failed. When it failed, I don't even have the opportunity to get the datas! BIOS won't even recognize it. You guys might find how lucky you are able to recover it.

The newer Seagate and Maxtor Hard Drive including 500GB, 1TB, and 1.5TB require a new firmware update, otherwise after a reboot, the hard drive might not longer be able to be detect by the BIOS.

I had to get the firmware but i still dont trust it. Im planning to get a Western Digital to replace it at some point prob 1tb as my seagate is 500GB.
