Hi all,

Due to rising electricity costs, Ive turned off the BetaArchive storage server unless it is being used. The bill doubled last month and my Dad isnt happy. You will have noticed the graphs disappear from the server info page, and this is why.

140w of power total in use
-40w for the storage server
100w currently being used

He will be happy that Ive reduced it even THAT much :)

EDIT: This is how much it was costing:

140w @ 16p/per/KwH for 24 hours a day

£0.54 per 24 hours
£3.76 per week for 24 hours a day
£15.05 per month (28 days) for 24 hours a day
£45.16 per quarter (3 months) for 24 hours a day
£195.69 per year for 24 hours a day

Now its costing:

100w @ 16p/per/KwH for 24 hours a day

£0.38 per 24 hours
£2.69 per week for 24 hours a day
£10.75 per month (28 days) for 24 hours a day
£32.26 per quarter (3 months) for 24 hours a day
£139.78 per year for 24 hours a day

I was wondering if that really worked. I usually turn off Num / Caps / Scroll Lock when going on standby, but thought it was nothing.

You wouldn't notice it. Its an LED for crying out loud. They use so little energy you can power it from lemons.

Solar = not effective and very expensive (£5000/$10000 just to run a server)
Wind = big turbine needed and nowhere to put it (£500/$1000 and itll be massive)

Do you know how incredibly expensive these are? For the money it'd probably cost him to buy that equipment, he'd be able to run the server off the wall for many years.

Exactly. I already have £300 worth of solar panels and all they can do is run a desk light for 6 hours a night. Thats 2watts. The servers totalled together is 160w.

If you want to see my solar panels etc you can go to my website www.repowered.co.uk and then you can see for yourself how ineffective it is.
