Is this why my PC lags?

Post by Arths »

Hi!

my PC have an Intel Celeron Tualatin 1300Mhz

And for flash games like "Habbo" my PC lags and with VMware too.

Is my processor the reason of the lag?

Thanks

EDIT: What OS do you recommend for me, I have 1Go of RAM

Most likely the CPU if it lages in VMware aswell but its a 1.3Ghz so really shouldn't lag to much

It's a Desktop

Have you optimised XP to run more quickly? Turning off the eye-candy may help. So switch to the Classic theme, change your wallpaper to a solid colour and remove fading and shadow effects on windows.

besides your processor (you can find better in things that fit in your pocket lol) what are your system specs?

Computers are very cheap these days. You can even pick up an old P4 cheap which would be better...

it also might be that you don't have enough ram. depending on the type, you can usually pick up a 1gb stick for $20-25 USD off of newegg.

Your computer lags because it's old and outdated.

Back when it was new, that processor was still considered lowend (I'm assuming it's based of the Pentium 3). Now it's lowend and old. What do you expect?

Well personally, I am tight with my pocket, so I went out and get brand new Intel Atom 230 (not N230) and it's a lot faster and cheaper than a Pentium 4. I bought my (computer and all) for 207 US dollars including taxes + shipping and handling.

Atom 230 and Atom 330 are the only ones to support 64-bit. Atom N2XX. and Atom Z5XX are all 32-bit.
Never leave home without PeerBlock, or you might not return at all.

I have 1Gb of RAM

I disabled "Themes" service, and in Performance of System Properties, checked "Adjust for best performance"

Now it seems faster than before..

check whats runnig in lal the tabs of msconfig and that can help oyu out a ton.

ive gotten xp to keep its visual theme and effects and only use 200mb of ram with im and the taskmanager running. 150 without theme ans 100 without a taskbar... dont ask.

ccleaner and defraggler are also nice if no one has mentioned them.

There's not much to say - it's time for a computer. Like I said, buy a Pentium 4 PC cheap.

I agree. The CPU is by far the limiting factor in this. A P3-era Celeron 1.3GHz might have been usable back when it was new, but software has become a lot more demanding. Sure, it might have run XP and Flash well back then, but now, throw in few XP SPs, and many new flash versions, the latest supporting GPU acceleration, and it's no surprise that it's quite slow now. I would never have considered that a PC to even start virtualising on though. Virtualisation was bad enough on my old Sempron 2600+, even when going x64. If you are serious about virtualisation, you need plenty of RAM , a nice speedy SATA2 Hard drive and a dual-core with Hardware virtualisation at least, not a P3, 1GB RAM and an IDE drive.

Get a new motherboard too? The motherboard will be a similarly old and painfully slow piece, I doubt it even has support for the fastest IDE Standard..

I am confident that it isnt one part that is slowing down (as said in all post so far basically) so wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a new computer than replace all of the parts, and motherboard, on the current crappy one wouldn't it?

I just got a laptop for 300 dollars (220 or so euros i think) with 2gb ram a good enough graphics card for aero with a 2.0 ghz processor. I think its lowest base score on the vista assessment was like 3.x, though i got it for someone else not me .

The minimum system requirements are on the iTunes download page, but it can be a little more resource greedy if you do any kind of streaming.
