For some reason, I just had this crazy idea for a thread where we all recommend stuff to each other, software and sites and whatnot that we enjoy/have had good experiences with.

I'll Start, I recommend:

Piriform Freeware
Adblock Plus plug in for Firefox
Stylish plug in for Firefox
The Windows Now Blogs (Been around for a long time, have some great Longhorn era articles as well as recent stuff)
The Windows Connected Blog
The Everything Microsoft News Mesh
Irfanview

Heh, thats a few more than I first intended, now its your turn :)

I recommend:

Samsung Media Studio (surprised me, especially good on older 98-2000 era PC's, or anyone who's trying to run Vista on specs they really shouldn't)
PE Explorer

I also Reccomend:
Blatte's Backgrounds
That site is so awesome, before I had the internet I used to go on it whenever I had the chance/access to the net to get wallpapers, Its great to see this site back online after so much downtime.

Strange question, on average, how much RAM does Avast use?

If I could run it on my POS laptop with 256MB RAM I'm sure it'll run on your computer

According to the website, the requirements for XP are:
Pentium 1 Processor,
64MB Ram
100MB Free Disk Space.

You can see all the requirements for all the os's here:

Jabster meant how much RAM does avast use when running, like 20mb or 100mb or more or less.

For my AVG Internet Security:
The amount or memory depends on the load, sometimes it's 20mb when just in rest (no scanning) or when scanning it uses more RAM.
(Or when I download a file the RAM also increases but not much to scan that file.)

The few times I have had AV software installed in the past few years, I've gone with NOD32, great memory usage (15-20MB while idle IIRC) and it always scores well on the VB100
