Ive decided on how we can stop the leeching.

1. Start over with the members list and people will have to get 50, yes 50, posts before gaining access.
2. Randomly change the password.
3. Instantly ban those members, and their ip range, that leak the login details.
4. Randomly change between the ip addresses available on the server.

or:

You have to ask for your own account which will be set up and active for 3 days with max 1 connection only and having to wait for me to add it before you can start downloading.

Which would you want? I voted the first one.

I voted Instant access but random ip/pass changes and instant bans. As well because sometimes if you are using slower internet (EG: Dial-up) you can't a big file in 3 days.

Not that I use the server for anything other than uploading, but if I had
to make a choice, I'd like to have my own login account using my name
as the username, & have the connection limit set to one only...
If 2 instances were then connected you'd know my login details were
leaked & then kick & ban me..

Betas are usually pretty big. I'd rather have random passwords and IP Changes.

I agree on all the points, and I voted for the first option, even though 50 posts seems a bit too much, IMO.
I think 25 posts would be the best solution, since with a 50-posts limit, even some of us who're not leechers, would be unable to access the servers. :?:

The 50 posts would be for people who are new to the forum, not to those who are well known, like yourself.

maybe for "new" users they get access that is limited (speed, connections) and can earn an account which is faster by staying active, not just leeching etc....

A personal account for the long time dedicated members who you know
are good for uploads..
A public / limited account for those with potential, sort of trial account...
Or perhaps a number of limited accounts, with a list of who has access
to whatever account you make...

The only thing stopping me from running an ftp at the moment is the
lack of time & hard-drive space, but I can tell you when it's up, each
person will have their own account, & only after something of value
has been uploaded...
Buggered if i'll have a one for all account, impossible to track who's
leaching & sharing details..

I agree with that.

What I might do is this:

1. Slow 50KB/s account with unlimited connections (but 1 per IP) for people who cant be bothered to contribute (0-50 posts). The slow speeds might make them decide otherwise. (Static password)

2. 200KB/s account with unlimited connections (but 2 per IP) for people who do decide they want to contribute a bit (51-100 posts). This might make them contribute more for even faster speeds. (Dynamic password)

3. Unlimited speed account with unlimited connections (but 4 per IP) for people who contribute a lot and are a valued member on the forum. (101+ posts) This will be valued by good members. (Dynamic password)

Sound good people?

This sounds good as well, but (and this is meant to be a compliment!) if persons will have to upload something you don't already have in order to get an account for downloading, the following problem might occur: Your collection of betas is so incredible that I personally wouldn't know what to upload because I might have nothing you don't alredy have! And therefore, I wouldn't be allowed to download.

offtopic, but

I have gotten a bunch of stuff to contribute. I'll upload it when I get back from Phoenix in a week or so.
