Maybe if the system didnt have the appropriate file for a BSOD?
Just guessing.

The BSoD is generated by D:\XPSPRTM\BASE\NTOS\Ke\BugCheck.c, line 923. The function is KeDisplayBlueScreen. The BSoD code is located in Ntoskrnl.exe in %SystemRoot%\system32\

The only way to make a BSoD with DirectX or OpenGL is to call KeBugCheck or KeBugCheckEx in the abstraction DLL (Include file: wdm.h or ntddk.h)

and... How do you do that? That would be so funny if you just made a program that generates a BSOD... I'm wondering. If you called it, what would it say in the bit where it tells you what went wrong?

Simple, just write an app that calls KeBugCheck or if you're on Vista,Server 2008 or 7 end smss.exe or wininit.exe to get a manual BSoD

__________

The format for line errors are like this:

Prototype:

Code: Select all

File %s caused an unexpected error (%d) at
line %d in %s.
Example:

Code: Select all

File ntoskrnl.exe caused an unexpected error (1337)
line 1640 in d:\xpsprtm\base\ntos\init\initos.c
