Hello,

I am creating a program that trys to edit a file in the %windir%\system32\en-US\ <file>.dll.mui
(exe off-set patch)

How can I successfully preform the offset patch overriding and backing up the original windows file?

(I know renaming works but I want to replace / edit the actual file )

Any help?

If wanted I will add your name to the release if your comment fixes this.

(any script that allows edits to this dir also?)

Thanks,
DESiGN

AFAIK there is no way to modify a file which is being used, so to edit a MUI you need to shut down the component that uses that MUI and for most parts of Windows it's not easy to just shut them down. I guess you will need the rename and restart procedure... :^)

Whiles windows was on
I renamed a mui file to mui.bak
then copied the patched mui
and ran mcbuilder.

Is there a script somebody can make to rename <file>.dll.mui and then run mcbuilder.exe as an admin?

vbs, bat, exe, wsh, etc...?

I could make you the script or even a graphical patch if you want to

Sounds Good.

I've already made an offset patch with <file>.dll.mui

Are you good with GFX?

I just need a script that lets the patcher edit %windir%\system32\en-US\<file>.dll.mui

I know batch pretty well, and I believe I tried that and it didn't work. Here is the setup I'm looking for and this is for vista.

Step 1 (need code / maybe vbs)
Code:
RENAME user32.dll.mui to user32.dll.mui.pch

Step 2 (have code)
Code:
OFFSET PATCH user32.dll.mui.pch

Step 3 (need code / maybe vbs)
Code:
RENAME user32.dll.mui.pch user32.dll.mui

Step 4 (need code / maybe vbs)
Code:
Run %windir%\system32\mcbuilder.exe as administrator priv.

Finish (have code)
Then execute batch script by me :)
Code:
